Water to the turbo really needed?

Greetings Guys.

Ok just a quick q. Mechy told me that he is going to blank off the water pipe going to the turbo.... Reason being that the turbo heats up the engine 's water unnecessarily. I know the turbo will take longer to cool down and need a longer time to idle etc..... I am just reasoning that why would they do all the effort in the first place?

Yea I'm clever like that sometimes... ;) But really though what will happen if there is no water to it?

I the turbo is designed to take water ,it needs water.

water through the turbo bearing housing helps the turbo live longer..

so choose,

less heatload on the cooling system, or shorter turbo life.. :wink:

Trust turbine dont even have water cooling... they are just as good!!!

but Trust turbo performs well without water cooling... and plain bearing...
take the Trust T88 34D VS HKS T51R SPL the same setup, but T88 will chunk out more hp

the water cooling is there to keep the oil around the shaft cool not the turbo

also, the water lines where used on alot of OEM cars as the winter temps in other countries are generally alot colder than ours, running the water system thru the turbo allows the car's water to reach operating temperature quicker from cold start!

Well here is the equation:

Water to turbo = cooler turbo = cooler compressor = cooler charge = cooler oil
turbo heating water = quicker climb to operating temp
turbo heating water = more strain on cooling system
stock turbo + stock boost level = stock temp
bigger turbo or/and more boost = more strain on cooling system

bla bla bla bla etc etc fit an ally radiator if the temps are too high...

Nissan spent millions on R&D on the design so don't mess with it. Besides if there is water lines currently and you are not fitting a turbo that does not have ports WHY would you take it off... Just dont do other stupid stuff like take off the viscous fan... and if you do add lots of electric ones.
