The following is my opinion which is like an asshole we all have one.
Flame suit on
I think the S13 looks better however its a old design with a crappy engine.
The S14 does look a bit like a camry from the front but its a newer design and has a decent engine that you can get shit loads of parts for and makes plenty power.
Both of them are expensive to maintain and trim and body parts are a problem in this country.
although i dont think the ca18 is a crappy engine. i think its complicated by electronics that were advanced for its time, but seem rudimentary 15 years later. but thats my because of my recent experiences with it!!! i reckon with a decent managable ECU system - it'll be less dramatic.
i also wish it had more displacement, but we can have the same basic engine with more displacement, in the RB range!!!
and thats when you arrive at the real difference between the motors, the price!
its why i stuck to my guns with the ca18.

I have to agree to all said plus: the day when the s14 arrived and I saw the boot at the back - it totally put me off from the s14. Every thing else said is fine. A coupe with a boot is not a coupe for me. My opinion of course. Sorry JD and sorry Sokar, I still love you all.

why did you rebuild your engine, and not buy an import SR20
in a word:
too expensive.
oh wait, thats two words. maybe thats why i didnt study engineering!!!!
so justin - are you from kerridge???
expensive, can i get some ballpark figures please.
Kerridge-> its called APD now i left ADP in Jan, do i know you, i would of noticed an S13 in the basement parking?
i dont think you know me, but a while back my fiance' worked at ADP. she had a KCC email adress, and i remember that you joined zooped with your KCC email address. when i showed her that, she said she knew who you were!!!

The guys are talking about a swap not a rebuild or upgrade.
Sr20det engine and gearbox R10 000
Management fitted and mapped R9000
Intercooler and plumbing incl Bov R6000 (My design)
Fong Kong Intercooler somewhat cheaper
12" Electric fans I seem to recall R1000 each X2
I love my crappy CA18 Although an SR would be nice, i'll stick to mine to make a point. Any thing 15 years old can be seen as out dated and will become unreliable if its 15 years old.
As with many things, things are loved for there popularity. The reason why SR's are so popular is that the CA18 S13's (PS13) had a very short life span in Japan, and where quickly put aside by the SR20 (RPS13). Where in other countries UK/AUS/SA the CA18 where the only S13's that where put on sale. Japan is the driving force and we just follow. I can nearly bet if they kept the CA18 through the S13 range that it would have the same respect as the SR20. Just look at the 4AGE engine, it's lank old, but loved by many! The only reason is that Toyota never really did an major engine change like Nissan, the SW20 (Thats an MKII MR20) saw the 4AGZE which was a an supercharged version, that beefed the popularity more, even the 4AGELU (20V RXI motor) used it as a base. As with all things demand pushes development and such SR20 became the standard for after market (AM) parts, and why there are so many available. But the last couple of years has pushed the demand for CA18 parts up due to the popularity from AUS/UK even USA. But I don't see it going any further, the CA18 has met it's age. The SR will live on for a little while longer... to bridge the cap in the Nissan performance car era... I don't see many of us buying a Z33 and bolting on affordable AM parts just yet... not for the next 3-5 years. But we have to get use to the VQ engine range its the standard for the next generation, inline is dead
think about this - if you put the R30K difference to good use, which will fit better into your garage?
i thought about it, and came to this conclusion:
the R30k difference is accurate if you accept the current advertised prices of the s13 sx. i dont. so i say its more like a R40k (+-) difference.
no matter.
even with a R30k difference though - you should be able to perform enough modification to achieve a regular 180rwkw??? no???
then you could have a savage beast and it wouldn't have the comfy underpinnings of the s14. so you would really know you are driving a winner instead of a camry!!!
