my CA18det is RETARDED

Post by veecee »

my CA18det is RETARDED!!!

bruno had a little argument about which way the cam angle sensor has to be turned to advance/retard the timing of the ca18det.

in the end i tend to believe what he says, but i want to hear from other technically minded people too.

i am 100% sure that i got the timing marks on the crank pulley right. they read in a clockwise orientation from -5 to 20 degrees in 5 degree increments. is that right???

then when setting the timing, if i need to advance the timing do i turn the CAS clockwise, or do i turn the CAS anti-clockwise???

i want to cure my ca18det of its "possible" RETARDEDNESSISM!!!

best way is to adjust it with a timing light, I had a issue with CAS once. Couldn't get the damm timing right. So to be on the safe side, slap a timing light on there and adjust accordingly.

if you want to advance the timing you turn the CAS anti clockwise.

i did it with a timing light.

but the position of the CAS looks retarded compared to most others that i've seen out there!!!

thanks G.

i reckon the relative position of the bolts can also stuff ppl around!!!

ye, never work on the bolts, Mine was correctly installed (there is only one way except if the "halfmaan" on the shaft has broken off.) and I could get it to 15deg, mine was around 20deg with the CAS fully to one side. I just replaced the CAS and it was perfect. They say the disk/plate inside the CAS comes loose and moves.

can i open it to check.

i know ppl open them to replace the disk when installing aftermarket ecu's, but it would be nice to be able to check mine before coughing up hte big bucks!!!

yes you can, Mine was not loose so that I could turn it by hand, but just watch out not to damage the sensor inside.

You also check the bearings in it then, I replaced mine because it was not so smooth anymore.

ok thanks for the info people
i have just checked my timing with a timing light during lunchbreak

now, how do you get the timing light's cables out after they wound themselves around the waterpump axle and into the waterpump bearing?
also, does anyone have a fan for me with all the blades intact?
and some band-aids please

is it retarded now?

i guess so...

when you do patch up your arms with bandaids, and fix the waterpump with molten lead, maybe you will realise that its actually...

you know that feeling of openmindedness that floods over you when you sit on the verge of a cliff, staring at the horison, thinking that the world is your oyster and that no problem is too big?

that website takes me there every time
(100% safe btw - not like Woohaa's porn+fish-eye sites)
