Dyno Hell

Post by Pinkfluffybunnys »

Good Afternoon Guys…

I had a very unpleasant experience this afternoon and I would like to warn all the club members and any people from any club that might read this.
Today I had a Power run at J&M Performance now I am not really one to complain about service and I will put up with allot of Sh&t from people being in the service industry and all but this place is in a league of it own.

OK first off, I contacted the company at around 11am today to confirm the time for my run and possibly move it forward, but I was told there was a car on the dyno and the time for my run was set at 1pm.
I left my office at 12:30pm taking my Hour lunch and arrived at J&M Performance at 1:07pm I then proceeded to speak to the reception lady, I was told that the owner had gone to pick-up his kids and will be back shortly after waiting almost 20 minutes I was about to leave when an Employee asked for my keys and put my car on the dyno after this was done I then proceeded to wait another 15 minutes before the owner arrived so a Total of 35 Minutes was wasted

Now I’m not very clued up on dyno tuning but I do know one thing the car should always be strapped and I stand corrected on this, all this company did was install nice wooden block on the front wheels of the car.
They then proceeded to install the most asthmatic Dyno fan I have ever seen, A DEFY fan could move more air then this thing anyway another 15 minutes had passed and we could now dyno ,this is a load dyno so the guy takes the car up in increments of 1000Rpm every time releasing the throttle causing the car the move back and forth moving those little wooden blocks farther away, anyway as you can guess it wasn’t soon before the car started over heating (Well in my eyes anyway) oil temp was around 125 degrees C when I finally told them to take the car off the dyno. This concluded my run…

Now the moral of the story is I went cheap I looked for the cheapest place to dyno at and I got it , But everything was cheap including the service in my eyes. I’m not upset that lost my R150 I’m scared I could have damaged my motor because of being cheap only time will tell I guess.

Anyway here is my pathetic numbers

1500RPM – 14 BHP
2000RPM – 28 BHP
2500RPM – 46 BHP
3000RPM – 65 BHP
3500RPM – 91 BHP
4000RPM – 117 BHP
4500RPM – 124 BHP
5000RPM – 130 BHP
5500RPM – 141 BHP
6000RPM – 153 BHP
6500RPM – 157 BHP

Dammit man, the bad service feeling again....it always comes back to bite you.

Hope your car is still ok PFB - but since you run good quality oil there should be less chance for damage even though it got so hot. If a guy wasn't gonna strap my car down for a dyno run I wouldn't trust him for sh%t.

Kill them, kill them all

But seriously that sucks, at least you're a bit wiser now to the whole process.
Diesel power, hmm, yes, I think I'll have some of that.

Yeah, I hear u PFB, I was told by an 'expert' tuner that chipping my car or doing anything else won't improve the power. And that my car will never be fast. Just seems to me like a tuner that doesn't know what he's talking about.

I think we should have a "Good/Bad/Ugly" section to the forum so that we can warn other users about kak service as well as to praise excellent service.

What do you think? I feel it would be quite informative.

Dudes that dyno was a total F$k-up on my part the rating is wheel but thats the power of an over-heating CA and I really don't give a damn about the number on that dyno

After all the hill-billy ness on the place I am really not going to trust it, Just going to get my car on an acceleration dyno sometime next month

I had the same experiance when I dynoed my car, they bring a crappy little fan that does nothing but make a noise.

Take your car to a decent dyno shop and get them to do a power run, 150Hp is kak.

Or Rightway developments in Midrand, I won't let them tune a car, but they have a very decent dyno setup there...
