I'd say stick to the standard airbox. Unlike NA cars, the turbo actually sucks in air, and while you will still get a gain from some non-filtering filter, it will not be noticable (except psychologically). And also, these engines are muffled by all the intake goodies so you won't get that sound that you do from a NA car, although you might hear some turbo flutter if you're into that kinda thing...

You're also trading off a little power gain with a lot of reduced longevity. The weaker the air filter, the more damage your air flow meter takes. And that costs over R4000 to replace. I've seen piece of glue come off from aftermarket filters - if that goes through your AFM, it could damage it permanently. IT could also hit your turbo while it's spinning at full speed, unbalancing the shaft and doing lots of damage in the process.

I agree with Toby, stay with the standard box, what I do not agree with is the aftermarket filter that brakes off a piece of glue or anything for that matter of fact....this can happen with any filter, if you use a good filter like BMC or K&N and use it the right way, oil and so forth, you won't have any problems.

That is my opinion, I have been using a BMC filter now for almost 2 years...

I think a cone filter is great just use a quality one, K&N or BMC or something.

Gary i would like to run K&N or BMC the thing is that i wasnt sure about the size of the adaptor and because of that i yust got the same brand of filter. I was looking at BMC but the nearest size was a 76mm where the somota i think is a 70mm.

Yes I am, it is called a OEM replacement filter, the 200sti usses the same filter.....

PS. I fitted a huge FMIC without removing my bumper or anything....just have a look when you have it....

Im looking at the OEM now on the Autostlyle website, but will my car go better(dont want to call it normal) again ones the airbox is back with the OEM fitted?

You will gain around 3-5 wkw but again it has to be done on a dyna.

Steve's Auto Clinic is a RIP OFF! Yes, technically they are quite good, but I find that they lack respect for the 200SX and see it as a money-making opportunity. Expect them to tell you things like: your bearings are worn, you have no compression on your cylinders, your turbo is stuffed, etc. Plus I gave them a simple electric aerial to fit and they stuffed it up. Plus my compression was actually fine. And they are BLOODY expensive...

when i bought my car the previous owner said that it had been to SAC twice in the past. once was for an turbo rebuild. when i took the car off his hands the turbo was not spinning at all. they had used so much firegum that it had lodged itself between the turbo wheel and housing, and it couldn't spin.

the workmanship was so bad on the engine that i had decided within two weeks of owning it, that i had to rebuild it myself!

so i would definitely tell anyone considering their services to stay away. technically, from what i saw on my car, they were absolutely terrible!!!

They havent replied on my mail so i went to them in person. 800 and something for a remap. Then ill rather go back to Dastek, they charge 450 for a dyno witch i suppose will be the same for remat seeing min e is still within garantee.
Toby i would've done your aerial for free, mine took me 30minutes to replace.

Charl, I might still take you up on that offer! My aerial doesn't go all the way down, even though I redid the aerial after SAC stuffed it up, and added the metal sleeve they had left off.
