Quick quote from Richie Jute in JHB as I'm re-building my M20 (Beemer Motor) and have been phoning around.
Head Recon R 800
Sparkplug Helicoil R 120
Crank Metal Stitch R 250
Conrod Resize R 80
Block Rebore R 525
Crank Regrind R 525
Assemble Sub Assembly (3 Month Guarantee) R 850
Prices arent bad, they are in the norm of most engineering places, but thats just to give you an idea, rather call your own engineering place, for R850 and a 3 month guarantee its almost not worth assembling it yourself. Maybe its different with a CA as its a bit specialised, but they say they do about 10 of my BMW motors a month, so they know how to work on them.

The only engineering shop that touch my engines are Alan Y Brink in Pta. They do all the Nissan Motor Sport engines and have plenty SR experience. The produced the 210kw SR20 NA touring cars engines from a few years back, remember? Nissan dominated for 4 years? My SR is still going perfect after 43000km, my 4x4 L28 7000rpm motor is still perfect after almost 60 000km mostly off road.
I gladly pay the little extra

Life begins at the end of your comfort zone...
i would say you can uses this as a learning experience. you could strip the engine your self, source the parts your self as well, there is a learning curve there too, then take it to an engineering shop to assemble e.g allan y brink.
speaking of, depending on the power your looking to make, i've got a 1st undersize crank (straightend, key way done, thrust repaired virtually a brand new crank) with bearings to sell
this was all done by allan y brink

What's Allan's number... So I can enquire.
This sounds like a rebuild will work out to about R20k.
R4 500 CP pistons.
R1 400 ARP studs.
R1 200 gasket.
R1 400 gasket set.
Acl Bearings?
R6 500 Rods - if I replace them
R4 500 - R6 000 Engineering (no fancy footwork)
And it might still break...
