S14 In a Pickle ...
I just found out that I rather replace the engine on my S14 auto. I have been calling around and found a blacktop without VTC (R 9000), is this the right engine, or is that the S13 version?

That is correct.
The One with VTC is the S14 SR.

Re: S14 In a Pickle ...
So what engine should I fit? I think I got a quote for 14k for the S14, is there any other engine that i can fit without changing the tranny?

Re: S14 In a Pickle ...
Oh I see. Im starting to think the vtc is not worth the 5k extra, whats your take? Is it the VTC giving the S14 more power than the s13 or is it just the turbo thats the bigger factor?

Re: S14 In a Pickle ...
The sr from the s13 also runs a smaller turbo and has a few different pipes, especially the intake. It also runs a different ecu, wiring and has no nats.
The s13 sr engine fits to the s14 box and engine mounts just fine but the vvt from the s14 sr makes a very nice difference mid range.

Re: S14 In a Pickle ...
Also the S14 head is a low port SR (intake ports completely vertical) and the others are high port heads (intake ports are I think @ 30Deg upwards and much longer).
The VCT head flows much better as stock and when moddified also flows better.

Re: S14 In a Pickle ...
My mechanic is meeting with someone from a drifting club who deals with these cars, he claims that they can use another nissan engine (STI / Primera or something) instead, because they are stronger, firstly can it be done, and secondly, if so, am I going to be happy ????
