Engine rebuild
Howzit mates.
I have a ca18det and have been thinking about pulling the engine out and giving it some TLC.
I plan to change;
Main rod bearings
Timing belt
Pulley's
Valves and springs
Gaskets
Water pump
Oil pump
Studs,
Is there anthing else that i should add to my list?
And can anyone help me with prices?
Thanks very much.

Re: Engine rebuild
If you gonna go cometic (MLS), it is recommended that you skeem your block and head and not just the head otherwise Payen is fine.
Is this just an engine refresher or are you planning to boost the crap out of the CA?
Also ARP head bolts for an even torque.
While you at it clean your MAF sensor and replace vacuum lines.

Re: Engine rebuild
Pretty much boosting a reasonable amount of crap out of it. And doing the radiator hoses.

Re: Engine rebuild
Had a look at your pics. Depending on what power you looking at... A SR20 might be a better option if you want to make over 240kw reliably without throwing too much money or just drop in a RB25 or 2JZ and be done with.

Re: Engine rebuild
Thought abot that, but an SR20 conversion is not the cheapest thing to drop in. I have seen a complete drop in with harness, ecu and gear box for R60 000. I only paid 15 000 for the car.

Re: Engine rebuild
That turbo has definatly seen better days. Going to try stick to good quality well known name brand products. I have gotten hold of the guys from team obsession for some of the parts, wanted to find out if they cant post some of the things to me because i have little time to make a trip down south, were if I buy off eBay the deliver straight to my door, after waiting a couple of weeks tho.

Re: Engine rebuild
Great stuff. How did you pay him? Where did you source your intercooler from and all the piping?

Re: Engine rebuild
i did a eft into his account and the intercooler i swaped but any performance place you can get a intercooler and the piping you must just buy bends and build it up yourself

Re: Engine rebuild
Is there any means of finding out if you need a 4 port or an 8 port gasket before pulling the head off?

Engine rebuild
Head gasket same. Just the intake gasket. Look for the butterfly rail In front of the fuel rail.
