Post by SonOfAnarchy ZA »

i know this has been discussed several time but i got a standerd airbox i want to put a cone filter but was advised against it. the mechanic tells me that cone filter lets to much dirt through and blocks the afm and ends up cuzing endless trouble im not boosting over 1bar and need the car to be reliable the car is a daily drive is it a good idea to put a cone filter on?

Running a cone filter is not a bad idea. Yes it does allow more "dirt" through. But your regular service must just include cleaning the afm then you won't have any problems.

Also ensure that you make it a cold air induction, in other words a filter that is not in the engine bay or atleast a filter that has fresh air flowing directly on it.

Putting a cone filter on and have it in the stock position in ur engine bay serves no purpose at all!

Carb cleaner works very well for cleaning the afm.

Some tests have proven that even the stock filter can also be bad and that good quality fiters like K&N, BMC, Apexi iss almost just as good with filtration. I saw a filter test over 500miles on a mx5 where the K&N was better than the stock. In that particular test the mazdaspeed replacement filter was better in both gains made and filtration and even beat the stock filter with filtration.
