Bogging Down of launch.

Post by Ian »

Howzit,

My SX is bogging down like mad again, last time I set timing and checked filters and still would bogg down. I gave up and change the Backbox only because it was rotten and then she launched perfectly with no bogging :!:

Besides the Backbox the rest of the exhaust is std, any suggestions or referals :?:

Sounds like ur car is struggeling to "breathe".....start by adding a free flow 63mm exhaust, if it still bogs down you need to start surching big time....explain how u launch in detail....

You have a valid point there because its as if the boost completely drops off and she has to build up boost again.

When launching I hold the revs at 3500 - 3800, half release the clutch till the revs and match vehicle speed for first gear, then completely release the clutch. Normally she gives a bit of a wheel spin and just revs up cleanly, now as I'm about to release the clutch power just dies off and then I release the clutch anyway and allow her the rev up normally.

If the car was battling to breathe it would start loosing power at high rpm when there is more air flowing through the motor.

Well I tried to drift with her on friday night at wesbank and the power seems to be there at high rpm, just not my skill.

(serious respect for the drifters :!: )

I have gotten hold of Wildcat exhaust guys, I'm just waiting for a quote. What bugs me is the fuel pump, its been getting loader and loader the past few months and I only use the SX on weekends. I'm not sure if the fuel pressure is dropping off, but surely it should splutted at high rpm then.

If it were a fueling problem then the power would drop off at high rpm.

makes me think of limp mode again - but then he wouldn't be able to rev the car up past 1500-2000rpm.

I think its your launching technique.

Try my way, hold the car at a steady 850rpm, pull you foot off the clutch slowly as the car move forward give it some gas. When your foot is completely off the clutch put your accelerator to the floor and there you go nice and easy  .

Can give it a try, isn't a bit slower off the line :?: When my launch does work, I get off the line instantly with a huge amount of momentum, nailing basically everything and by the end of second gear - unless there is serious power - I've pulled the guy out clean.

But it sounds like a intresting method, well worth looking into. I'll give it a go and let you know, maybe I'm holding the clutch to long, who knows. Thanks 8)

Well thats how I pull off, sure it is slower but never hurts my cluth, now gearbox, nor diff, nothing. Besides if I rev it to 3000rpm and pull my foot off the clutch I just wheel spin.

that tends to happen with 180rwkw!!!

i was lucky enough to drive bruno's car with its new RB25det swap. 200rwkw.

same thing happens.

i watched destroy a set of used rear tires drifting on the wesbank short oval for less than 10 minutes!!!

it was a fantastic site!

and it IS a fantastic car to drive with an RB25 swap.

I went in a S13 with a RB26DETT swap and man that is nice. The sound of it is magic. But damn that thing is tail happy, his was a stock RB26 just with pod filters and FMIC.
