Any build thread or details?
Is it a water cooled intercooler inline?
I want to do the NEO VVL head conversion! 9000+ rpm FTW

Sub is only there to hold, not to make power! i would say spend the money on the head!!!Grobblere wrote:9000rpms are great,....doesnt make you faster tho!

hmmm...i would like to disagree with you there.
The sub and the head combined create the power. The head does play an important part, obviously. To state that the sub is only there to hold power would be incorrect, certain characteristics does improve power. 10% in volume per cycle may in some cases add 10% in power in theory (Torque) also remember the volumetric efficiency. If you can rev 8000k...then make the best out of that, i raced allot of cars especially Honda’s being able to rev over 9k and left them behind with my 7.6k rpm limit, Revolutions doesn’t win a race.
The head is very important to make more power, i will not disagree with that, but being able to rev more, thus changing your power band is useless in your bottom end would be able to support the revs safely. i.e piston speed, rods, oil pump, water pump (Have you ever spent a fortune on a engine just to see a rod come through the side?)...just to mention a few things you might want to consider. Bigger is not always better, it’s a package deal.
Remember the bottom end, sucks air through the intake into the sleeves or combustion chamber, combusts it and then pushes it out the exhaust port. Changing certain of these characteristics in this process may have an astronomical effect on the rest of the motor.
Study what you want to achieve with the motor before continuing, if u want bragging rights then the 9k mod will give that to you. Matters like these will be the difference between what sets you behind or in front.

At the end of the day I drift on the limiter all day long, but I know the standard sr head is no good for this.
The vvl head has less moving parts and can rev to 9k safely with the standard sr bottom end.
As far as I'm concerned it is definitely a worthwhile mod for my application. No doubt some serious work will go into it, I don't do things half arsed with the silvia.
But just think of the monster that will come from it

@Aep86 That statement as quoted was not aimed at yourself. But overall, how many people dont make that simple mistake.
I myself owned similar setup of the mentioned parts, so i also know something about the subject at hand and stated own experience and other enige articles based around the subject.
@ djtreble If it would work for you, then do it!. Im glad to see you do things properly, most people dont and want to save money...hell dont we all get that idea at times

LOL, it's actually now closer to 1600hp, made 1400hp with the previous setup, has run a 1/4mil of 7.2 seconds.ESSEXY-ZN wrote:yup its quite fast. saw the vids on you tube. no were near 1000hp but it runs a 9 second quarter mile. btw its in an s15 shell. i personally think its ugly but then again its a purpose built vehicle.

Ye but I only said 1000Hp since after that figures don't matter anymore.
Oh and BTW they would not use a VE head if it was not better. remember these tuners have just about endless resources compared to us mere mortals.

"The vvl head has less moving parts"
Sometimes the knowledge or imposed knowledge on the internet really scares the crap out of me....

Re: Most awesome built SR... A picture is worth a 1000HP
And why is that? The rockers don't lie loose in the head like the normal det head, so less moving parts.
For those that don't know, the vvl head has its rockers on shafts that run the length of the head (no lifters) and the det has rockers that pretty much lie loose on top of the lifters and valves, only held in by the cams.

Re: Most awesome built SR... A picture is worth a 1000HP
hence why you need rocker stoppers to keep them from climbing off at high rpm or just put a vvl head on. that said it is probably going to cost you about 20000 to get it and make it work
