S14 Diff replacement dilema...

Post by phoenix s14 »

Hi all,

Sitting with a bit of a dilema. As I said before the VLSD in my S14 is not locking up (either not at all or very little) so the question i have is - considering the amount my car actually sees the track and that it is not going to become a permanent drifter. what would you do?

1. Fit a helical LSD from the S15 (which I can get)
2. Fit a clutch type 1.5way LSD (Kaaz)

Considering that the S15 diff is 1/2 the price of the Kaaz 1.5 way, the S15 diff works great on circuit racing/autocross/street and that the S15 diff (if looked after and serviced regularly) just about lasts forever. which would you fit? I have spoken to guys who have used the helical diff with great success and the only problem with it is that it is not great for drifting. But does allow some sideways fun just not really long constant drifting.

2 way diffs are crappy to use on the street and welding not really an option for me either. Want to be able to enjoy the car everyday and at our events...

Well as nice as that is it is another R5000 more for a NISMO vs Kaaz. Also have on good authority that Kaaz actually supply Cusco and a few other with their LSDs anyway can't be that bad then...

Thanks means alot coming from the Rat... you have some experience with the 1.5???

Personaly, I'd go for a S15 helical diff. If you can afford something like a Nismo 1.5, it would obviously be even better.

How much are they? (The S15 ones)

lol "the Rat"

Yes you need a permit to bring in diffs

I was looking at getting a 1.5 as it is the best of both. Havent had any experience with them. From my research the nismo was rated very high as it is quiet compared to the rest.

About R6000 and dunno if a group buy will help. Depends on availability. Yes they are used - about 15K to 30K kms
But these are reliable sources and the diffs are checked before shipping. These helical diff hardly wear at all anyway. so with such mileage I don't think they can be bad.

Probably depends on how many people want them. 2 or will probably not drop the price but with a few more we might be able to.
