Think it's faulty CAS

Post by SMKNG ACE »

Hi guys. I am experiencing some sputtering on my CA18DET and it is random, sometimes low revs and sometimes in between high rpm's.
I also noticed a like rattling sound from the engine as if it is a faulty bearing on tension er or some thing. I checked my timing and is spot on no problems there , checked fuel pressure 100%.

The other day went to work and the next day the car did not want to start at all and it did start the previous day 100%. So I got it started by moving the CAS a bit to retarded side (just a little bit) and there it started. So now i Get this sudden gains and loss of power even under idling like the car is running on 3 cylinders.

The noise i think is coming from the CAS i think as all other stuff is in great condition.

any input is highly appreciated.
Thanx in advance. :?:

Test your coilpacks, coilpack loom and ignition amplifier by changing for known good ones. Sounds like a faulty coilpack to me.

What does the rattle sound like? To find out where it is coming from, put a screwdriver on parts of the engine with your ear against the handle to tell where it Is coming from.

have done that and checked coil pack and it is good. removed the cas and if i hold the shaft and shake it a bit not violently there' s the sound of loose components or bolt inside. Want to try opening it to clean it check bolts and while at it replace the bearings on the shaft, but my headache is to remove the tamper proof bolts that holds the cas unit together as you can only tighten it and not loosen them. :(

I would personally just replace it then, see if you can find one from someone who is stripping a CA

The bearing of the cas is shot...you need to change the bearing...

 replaced the bearings on it and still not good. Getting working CAS tomorrow or so and will install set timing and check for the difference then. :|
