BOV Placement.

Post by Gary57 »

There is alot of debate about where the dump valve should be fitted but none have a clear cut answer. Should I fit it before the FMIC or after?? Currently I have it before the cooler and its working fine, just want to know if its in the best position.

Now this is my oppinion, If its before the IC then you are vented hot air prevent further heat soak in the IC. If you put it after the cooler you are venting air which has just been cooled (no point in that) and further heating up the IC.

Next thing is where on the respected pipe should it be?? Should It be close to the turbo/TB or close to the IC??

IMHO
If you place it before the cooler all the air in the cooler and plumbing gets vented and when you get on the gas the intercooler etc has to be pressurised before you see any boost.

Place it as close to the TB as you can the turbo keeps spinning and you dont lose a whole intercoolers worth of air.

The stock location is a good one.

Agree with Duane

here is the location of mine

I chose that spot since its out of the way...

I think the only reason why its popular to mount the BOV on the hot pipe in some countries is because you buy the whole pipe and BOV as a kit, ours have rubber at the intake so that doesn't suffice...

'cept for a dude i saw recently who tried a BOV install on that rubber pipe with some insulation tape and cable ties. needless to say he was plagued by boost leak!

damn - why is it that drifters love cable ties???

i have a nice little (well its quite large actually) BOV lying on my shelf in the garage, instead of installed in the car.

anyone want to help a broke-ass-brutha out and weld it to my steel hot pipe for me???

Silver solder - basically braced, works like soldering with electronics but much tougher stuff, they fix damage to hydraulic cylinders with it so you can imagine it can handle lekker pressure... it was a Bottle of Coca-Cola

I saw ChemCool also had his meth injection silver soldered...

and the bov will obviously be placed before the cooler, for convenience reasons. (yes i hate it like that).
