Very bad Bearing knock fix or engine replace?

Very bad Bearing knock fix or engine replace?
Good day all
I have found out yesterday that I have a bearing knock.
The problem is I have had the sound for some time now(almost a year) and fear the worst.
Mech says we can first look from the bottom, dropping the sump.
Could be lucky and just bearings are broken.
But could have gone onto crank. If so he says we need to pull the motor and strip.
My other option is to do an engine swop.
Problem is cash.
For just the bearings from bottom = R2500
Pull engine and fix whole motor = +/- R10000
New Engine(silvertop) with management and clutch = +/- R15000++ (I dont have 15K to spend)
What you say?
am I getting ripped?
Where would you go for this?

Holy smokes thats alot of dorra!
For a year you say? do you put 10km on the car a year? I don't imagine it lasting very long at all with a bearing knock .
Ever considered doing it yourself with the help of mates?
Most people on here don't get it right 1st time (including myself
) but the difference for me now is I don't need to do a complete engine rebuild in one weekend anymore as I have a daily now.
I've seen now, taking your time and being careful the CA is actually a super simple engine ( do you have a CA
)

Forgot to add what car it is.
It is for my daily runner which is a Toyota Corolla 2002 (RXi shape) and has a 1.6i GLS (4aFe) motor in.
I do about 30000km ++ a year.
Thing is she is still running strong, no power loss etc.

Going to fix her up.
To much hasstle to do engine swop to get the car re-registared etc.
Might only be the bearings and crank, so will be less expencive than buying a motor for now.

So we did a compression test yesterday to determine that it is the bearings.
This is done by revving the motor and disconnecting the spark leads one at a time. The fault would lei with the one that would have no knocking sound when disconnected.
It is on the Big-end, but I do suspect that I also have a lifter problem.
Sending the whole head in for engineering to be checked as well as hairline cracks and getting the crank cut.
A lot of cleaning to be done.

So we did the stripping.
Enging is shot.
Need all new bearings, pistons, cut crank, rebore block and all the extras to go with that.
Will be R8000+-
I had the option of a import, but you never know what you gonna get.
If we do this motor I will know it has been done perfectly and get another 300'000 on the clock.
