Grrrremlins.....

Post by H8rlequinb »

Ok well car was "finished" and was put on the dyno.
Just made 204kw at 0.7 bar which was very impressive. Then all hell broke loose. Car could not be kept cold enough on the dyno to complete tuning. Then a radiator hose blew, then the head gasket blew..... Took of the head only to find that none of the parts I was promised resides inside my engine. Not mechi's fault but the guy I bought it from. Now the engine needs a recon and all in it's just over 10k for the recon. +8k for the initial bits that I had made... fooking hell. Rather save my cash en get a RB.

Not thinking about the power on RB25 vs RB26 but rather availability. Can for the life of me not find a decent RB25,,, But if I find a nice one then that's going in. I must say TT setup is tempting :)

Well if you go 26 i hope you have DEEP pockets!oil supply is a issue, plus the stock turbo's suck, dont know what your budget is like but i say 25 is more cost effective and you can hammer them all day long, you can do about 300kw with bolt on upgrades.just my 2c

gotta agree with fred here, them rb26's are silly expensive to mod, just because they are more popular.. go rb25.

Ok well my pockets arent empty ( OMG did I just use a F&F pun???) but they arent over flowing ether if you know what I mean :) I'll keep having a look around for a RB25 then... I got some pricing on RB26 goodies and was way over my budget.I am also going to keep looking for a SR20DET motor on the cheap so I can take it to a engineering shop.. do everything I want to it like make it a stroker etc and then just using that... But will have to see.. In the meantime I am going to drive the CA like I stole it untill it packs up and take it from there.

"Just a side note. Mate from ozz is running a RB30 motor... custom built and holy hell those things are strong....Aparently the stock botom end can take up to 800 horse no probs.... Insane."

Rb30's are great havent driven one so its just a guesstamet you'll have to speak to wynand on that he had one.the best advise i can give you is to go for a ride in a sr and a rb25 then decide from there, dont know where you from but we have a dyno day on the 6th of feb at snail conversions if you pop round i'll get you into a tuned sr a rb25 and a rb26 that way you can have a clear idea of what's what...

Listen to fred, he has an RB and has had about most the rest. N trust me RB25 is definately not shy, I had to toss my jocks after a ride in one.....

I have an SR and even that is great, 200 KW with not to much mods, and 380+ if nos is added, on stock internals, well ACL Race bearings required and the nos HAS to be done RIGHT. Seen it first hand on a Dyno run....

Although if u running CA18DET at the moment, you could always just forge the internals and then give that a 500HP upgrade..... Probably for way less than the stock RB Upgrade..... If u had to see what Hotstuff's CA does on stock internals, ud think about this route..... I would have if I'd known that before my SR install.....

+100000 If CA is done right, its a cheapish power motor against a SR or RB. Cant believe I am saying it, but yeah...

But it depends what you want out of your car! :D

Ok, well seems I am sticking to the CA.... for now.
What I want to do then is buy an import CA, get it all forged up and once the current CA go's I have a block... but will see. As for right now the car is getting the new radiator fitted as well as some other bits today... Hopefully I will have it back today/tomorrow.... It's been a month!

Oh just a side note: I would like to thank Azania Motor's in PTA north... Seems to be the only reasonable mechi's left on earth that don't charge a arm and a leg and know what they are doing. I would highly recommend them to anyone... They are HONEST... And that go's a long way in my books.
