Was the head and block checked for straightness and skimmed as needed when the hg was fitted?

Here is a little smoke guide to help you diagnose:
black: overfuelling
blue: oil being burnt (rings)/turbo oil seals
White: turbo/HG/condesation

When and how bad does it smoke?

Check under oil filler cap and rad cap for mayo type substance, if that is fine then you know it isn't the head gasket.

Is the exhaust new?

Is it loads of smoke? or puffs?

The copper color just means you need to flush your water system. So I pressume there is no mayo like substance? If there is non under the oil filler cap then you can be happy its not your head gasket.

If it's just puffs every now and then, its bound to either be condensation in the exhaust or the turbo showing first signs of going. When you put your exhaust on you will probably find you will need to replace the turbo oil seals as the lack of back pressure will cause the seals to go. I'd refresh the turbo at the same time as doing your exhaust.

The black smoke is more than likey your car just over-fueling slightly (depending on how bad and how much you are getting).

What all has been done to your car? Is it still running standard map?

Refresh the turbo, get the exhaust on, take the car to a mapper, connect power fc and get the mapper to set it up properly.

He will let you know if there are any other issues.

You can run a bigger FMIC, Exhaust and free flow filter on a standard map so you can get the turbo and exhaust part done first and see if the problems are gone. They more than likely will be.
