MAF VS MAP
should i delet my air flow meter or use Q45 MAF or Z32 MAF instead???
Re: MAF VS MAP
I have had both, and I must say the fuel economy and smooth driving characteristics of MAF is a plus point.aep886 wrote:should i delet my air flow meter or use Q45 MAF or Z32 MAF instead???
But that is only my experience, others may have had it the other way around?
What ECU?

What ECU?
only choice of ECU here in SA would be Apexi power FC

I agree with Draco, MAP is better, more precise tuning abilities.
MAP: Manifold Absolute Pressure Sensor, which in turn means that your ECU will always know EXACTLY how much air is in the manifold, thus measuring out the precise amount of fuel every time. Also another upside is that there is nothing that can affect the calculation as the fuel measurement is done after the throttle body plate.
MAF: Mass Airflow Sensor, The MAF usually works on the principle of air temp, thus meaning that the will calculate the air density based on temperature, it will also calculate the rate at which the air cools the "Hot Wire" thus working out how much air is passing. The problem with this is that the calculation is done before the turbo and as such before the throttle body plate. This means that for example, if you have an internal dump valve that recirculates the air back in front of the turbo, your fuel calculations will remain safe but if you dump to atmosphere, you will end up running very rich for a few milliseconds, which in turn could give you a lagging feeling or a stuttery feeling and even cause more backfiring that usual.
All in all, with MAP your fuel is precises and you can play as much as you want, with MAF you can end up causing damage if you play around to much.
To me, MAF perfect if you keep your car standard & MAP the best if you know you will end up going all out like half of us do. But dont fret my friends, most after market ECU's have MAP sensors built in.
(PLEASE NOTE: I do not make assumption that I am 100% correct, if I can be corrected on some points, please do..)
