not really easiest would be to loosen the engine mounts and host the engine as is, you might be able to get a hand or so in there, but its not going to be easy.

thanks vlade, but maybe you can help. ive got an oil leak by the sump. we thought it was the oil drain pipe from the turbo but it isnt that cause i put a new pipe on. the oil is coming out quite abit. we filled the engine with 5l of oil and i know it only takes 3.5 or so. the leak only occurs once you drive. when the engine is turned on the leak is not present. it is frustrating to say the least. i was hoping the loosening of the mounts etc was not going to be the answer. also the car continues to overheat what would be the consequences of taking the thermostat out. its there for a but this is another issue that has been added. thanks again

Ummm its hard to say...

Where is the leak exactly? If you dont know clean it and go for a drive come back and check... If its on the rear of the sump, it might most probably be your rear crank seal. If its on either side of the sump make sure its not coming from the block, if its not from the block (oil feed/oil cooler), its the sump, you already said its not from the oil return. If its on the front, check your front crank seal.

Overheating... 1st thing I'd do is to check if you don't have an air lock (if you recently drained water) remove the water temp sensor and fill the car up with water while its idling, or pump the bottom radiator pipe by hand, fill it till you can't fill the radiator no more, while the car is idling.
2nd: Check if the thermostat is working, take it out boil some water in a kettle drop it in a glass of boiling water, it should open up. If its kaput replace, I don't run a car without it, it's there for reason.
3rd: Check for radiator blockage, try flushing the system, using some radiator flush.
4th: Waterpump.

Thats about it... IIRC.

overheating

Post by mickey »

i had overheating problems with my nissan patrol and i flushed the radiator. it sorted it out much to my total and utter amazement. so try that first, it is really easy just a pain in the bum.
I think animal testing is a terrible idea - they get all nervous and give the wrong answers!
