GT28 or T3/T4 Hybrid on SR20DET ?

Post by POWDER »

Hey Guys,

What would you guys suggest, I want to change out the standard Garrett on my SR20DET for a bigger turbo, TD04 or GT28 or T3/T4 settup ?

I wanna be able to go to 1.5Bar boost eventually..

Thanks Guys.

t3/t4 is crappy and the lag sucks... I had one on mine.

t3/t4 has such a wide range, if you use the biggest turbine housing and stage 5 wheel etc, then it will suck!!.

For street use gt28 will be best !.

Ok, so GT28 it is then, but that now leads me to ask...

1. Which GT28 Model
2. Where can I get one
&
3. What type of pricing am I looking at ?

GT28R if you can afford it.

If you battle to source one locally, give me a PM and I will find one for you here in the UK and get you the price including courier to SA.

Garrett gt2871r will almost spool as fast as std turbo, and be capable of almost the same power as 50trim 0,63ar t3/t4 !!.

Maximum power of plus minus 380whp with supporting mods.

Std Bottom mounting location , fits on std manifold as well.

Imported your looking at plus minus R10500 !!.

now that sounds like quite a bargain, i never thought that this size turbo could reach that sort of power tho

You'be be killing it getting that much power out of that turbo.
Safely you can run 330/340bhp.

i think this is more reasonable, from what a can remeber hearing a while ago, a gt2871r can go to about 320hp

I'd expect a lot more from a 2871 than low 300's on a SR20.
I'd be looking for at least 350hp with a 2871 52 trim AR .64. Could get the .86 and go for more, more lag too though.

Opinion based solely on what I've read over the years (so not worth much then)

GT2871R will be a nice street setup. Bigger injectors and management you can get some big numbers
