Rings??

Post by Daniel »

How do you test for rings??

Compression is even on all cylinders albeit it low at 8.5bar, but that was with a cold test. the car smokes its ass off on boost. If i give it some welly i see the smoke in the rear view mirror and when i change gear theres one huge gigantic smoke cloud

Turbo has just been rebuilt and i can smell the oil. Plus the smoke is a little darker than when the oil seals are gone.

I think my actuator on the turbo is faulty or something. On teh way to work it boosted to 1.4 bar  fcuks off like that but eish thats not good. will check it wen i get home.

But how would i test for rings? im not in the mood to pull the engine again. And the bank manager doesnt want to pay for a new gasket set + rings and whatever

Still drives a feck load better than last year :D

No it is the restrictor washer in the turbo side of the tappetcover breather pipe going into your air intake from the air filter.

Glad I could help you out widowman....with the washer thing, I thaught I was the only 1 with this washer thing....I am not alone anymore!!!!

If that PVC valve is blocked it can also cause to motor to smoke... but mostly on idle

Checked that 2.
I cant believe the rings are gone, that engine looked so spotless. All breather pipes where clean, head was clean clean clean. pulled off sump everything was clean even the oil in there was pretty damn clean. the spark plugs even looked good. Only the waterlines looked rusty. Reckon i need a couple water flushes

a little trick i heard of is to drip about a little bit of oil (clean) into your combustion chambers. it would be say 5ml's i think. then redo the compression test. if it goes up drastically then your rings may be stuffed.

but the leakdown test is the real way to do it.

What does the spark plus look like after a short run? Soot, lots of carbon or clean?
