I understand what coax is all about, but not aware the knock sensor must be wired/connected with coax. Sounds previous owner was desperate for some wire pulling......hmmmm.
As far as I know one single wire connects the knock sensor. It use to be a white wire. Also confirmed with Charl whos engin is out, and I think Tobies the same.
its a plain shielded wire - this can be found at electronic stores.... COAX like i know it is quite thick 1/4th of an inch used for CCTV and sh!t...
Now that knock sensor wire, the shield can be grounded, the inner part must remain as clean (from noise - electronic noise that is) as possible. It doesn't give out a + or - reading, but you can test your sensor with a multi meter but that is in the FSM.
When your knock sensor is not connected your ECU automatically switches to a "High Octane Map / Safty map" and yeah your car behaves like 50 year old hooker

Vlade, do you feel then that our s13 knock sensors are doing a great job?
Do you feel they really do the job? Why I am asking is some tuners dont trust nissan knock sensors, and I think Calibrators opinion sort of parrallel that?

Or, me running water/meth high octane. And cut the knock sensor going to high octane maps, which I think I must be using - would that me a smart move and how is this in correllation or harmony with Unichip and proper dyna then? How does this go hand in hand.
If the knock sensor is poked or disconnected Nissan default to 0.5bar boost plus they may retard the timing and richen the mixture up.
ALL knock sensors are a failsafe which are not 100% accurate to rely on them to save your engine when overboosting etc is very foolish.
Aftermarket knock sensing is still very primitive at least on the systems affordable by the man in the street.
My opnion and the top tuners in the world is tune the car properly and you will have no need for a knock sensor.

Freddy can't really quote on this I don't think my had ever used it with the stock ECU or if it even did work
I honestly think you are playing with fire without a knock sensor.
OK granted it might not be 100% accurate, but it still protection I would rather have in place. I mean a bullet proof vest isnt going to stop an AK round but i would still wear one on a battlefield
And I mean Nissan did put these Engines management system through years of R&D to have a "some mechanic"(like me) Come and disconnect the sensor because he knows better.

Let get a round of applause here, I agree 100%. Precaution is better than cure.

Phinx who you referring to? I can't run a knock sensor I don't have a ECCS ECU no more...
Not really directed at anyone. Its all about personal taste really
Its just my opinion, The Knock Sensor was put there for a purpose.
I understand that to have an After market ECU with Knock detecting will cost an arm and a leg.
As you know I'm a believer in the Stock ECCS System
