SR20DET Twin Turbo ?!?

Post by POWDER »

Hey Guys,

Another probably insane idea to toss arround. I am thinking about doing a twin turbo settup on my SR20, but dont know if it would be great idea.

Thing is this, I can probably get 2 X 2nd Hand, yet still fresh, Mitsubish TD04 Turbos, Directly off of Subaru's WRX STi, for about 2K each.

I know I will need to change to both custom intake and exhaust manifolds with a brilliant blow off and wastegate system, BUT..

....Do you guys think it's a go or a no go ? :?: :!: :?:

Thanks Guys...

That could work...

BUT! its gonna take alot of settings up. and you will need to get a smaller turbo setup. like 2x T2's or the like, for fast response or t2 and t25 or something.

The ultimate will be a TSi setup... still toying around with that idea myself...

hehe I did a bit of research on it and only a few have been done. and when I say few I mean like 2 :P

but in theory it shouldn't be very hard to do...

If you want something different rather go for a Twin charge set up and run a decent size turbo...

Hey Ads,
I dont think it will be, my boet was running TD04 on his Uno and spooled up like a mo'fo'... Dang quickly at about 2000RPM, I know that is like 400cc diff per turbo but I'm sure I can tackle the lag on that with the correct settup??? It is a bit ambitious though I know...

Currently on my Mates Coupe Turbo we have managed to get the turbo lag down to 1500RPM and with his dump HKS dumpvalve it definately stays spooled....

Boost wise the TD04 is probably equivilent to about a T28 but spools a bit like a T25 / T2 due to the small compressor housing.

Sup Riekert,
Please explain TSi, is that TurboSuperchargedInjection by any chance? If so, I dont think I have the dough for the "S" part in that... ha ha ha...

I have thought about the BiTurbo thing but that will only really be nice with a T25 into a T66 or somin like that and I mean a TD04 / T28 is good for maintaining +/-2Bar boost at limit, so more than enough for me I think.

OK Nirvash, I'll try it, once my car is back and I have driven it for more than a month this time..... (I find myself saying "When I get my car back" more than anything else lately !!! Must be a symptom of owning a 200SX

jip turbo supercharged.

Superchargers can be picked up for as little as R2k. so ja.. then its just the piping ect to be done.

I will be doing some intense research into that in the next few months cuase I want to do that with a passion!

OK, now if somone can explain the whole .86AR and .40AR and bla bla thing to me I would be greatly appreciative. Might be a dumb question, but well hey, I suppose were all a little dumb at some point or subject.... :?

What does the AR mean and what does it actually have to do with the turbo, like how it fits into play??? :?:

well the bigger the AR the more lag you'll have :P but top end power will be better.
