CAS

Post by Andrew.200SX »

Hi 1 and all.

I desperately need a Cam Angel Sensor for my CA18DET.

Changed the lifters and the car wouldn't start, just noticed that I can pull the shaft out of the CAS.

Desperate

Thanks Bud

I found out yesterday that the engine importers can supply me with one and there is a guy on the forum a couple of clicks away from me that also has 1.

Thanks again anyway.

Before I can do anything , I need to get compression on my engine first after changing the lifters. This engine has baffled me aswell as quite a few mechanics.

look in your ehaust camshaft where the cas goes in and make sure that the locating tooth is there is it not and you put the cas in a couple of degrees out youll never start it i found that out after few hours

It is there , but if the cam timing is spot on then surely the car must start?

I marked and put the CAS back exactly as I removed it. My biggest problem is the compression. With the new lifters there was a fair amount of compression , but out of desperation I put the old lifters back and there was no compression. So I have now re-installed the new lifters after bleeding them this time. Today is the moment of truth. If there is no compression , I apparently have to remove the head and send it into an engineering shop.

when you say marked the cas do you mean on the cam belt cover and cas

so you say your cam and cas both had the half moon locators in them mose cams the half moon is broken off i didnt notice it first time but after a while i figured it out

what are your error codes saying

take your cas out and leave the ignition on and then turn the splindle u should hear injectors and spark trying to work

one last thing check the fuel pump fuse (the other day i drove to work all dandy then switched off and when tried to start it would just crank but not fire then found the fuel pump blew its fuse (worth a look into)

also have you made sure you got spark

fuel and spark has to ignite no matter the compression it wont run well or might even keep cutting out but it will backfire or some sign of ignition

I marked the CAS when I removed it from the cam cover, on the cam cover, after setting the crank pulley on TDC and checked to make sure that the cam timing was right after removing the cam cover.

When I replaced the lifters it was trying to start , but to no avail. Maybe the cas was broken then allready.

The first thing that I checked was the fuel pump fuse , becasue I put in a Walbro pump 3 weeks ago and the car wouldn't start and after an hour of frustration , I decided to check the fuse only to find it was blown.

I took out number 1 plug and coil pack the other day and when swinging it fired once , so maybe because of the CAS it wasn't firing when it should ??

I am going to swing her again just now , with the plugs out , the power transistor disconected and without the CAS and check for compression.
I was swinging the crap out of the car for a few days , so that might be when the CAS broke and I only noticed afterwards in the manual that the power transistor must be disconnected when checking for compression , so I hope I haven't cocked that up 2 !

Poizen , am I right in assuming that the car wouldn't start if the CAS' shaft was snapped in half ? or would it have started but with a missfire ?

would never start if the cas is buggerd so yes you are correct but for it to snap make sure that the cam belt cover has the 2 locating pins in or your cas wont sit directly inline with the cam thus causing strain on the cas mayb even leading it to snap

HA HA

I was wondering if it was needed with a Diktator system.

What about the Nistune management system ? any opinions ?

you can use it on dicktator or you use the crank pully

nistune looks great and you keep all your tuning tools like afm cas det sensor etc but youll have to tune it yourself
