i can't remember, but mine did the same and i thought OHOH here we go again... search the earlier posts for smoke - some bright spark here found a little restrictor washer in the one pipe - think it is the gearbox breather? I was sceptical as always, but I removed it and it worked shapshap!

try it, you'll like it

Smoke while idle = turbo seals
Smoke on boost = rings
Smoke let of boost = valve stem seals

that is how i would clarify it... and from my own experience... it may differ depending on condition of other items... if it rings you might also see more than usual amount of oil in the breather system.

Who put the valve stem seals in?? If you ask me I think they could of damaged them when putting them in.

Or could be turbo seals :( .

I would also look at turbo seals, but also look for oil leaks in & around turbo. I had a similiar problem until I found that oil was dripping onto the turbo from the oil feed.
Was strange, but once sorted it was cool.

The other thing that will cause the smoke is if the oil line into the sump starts blocking up. this causes the oil to stay on the turbo longer & force its way out the seals. Check the oil lines into the turbo, always good to do anyway.

and the stem seals on the zorst vavles???

in my experience, three things were causing this on my engine (ca18det).

1. tired head - needed new valve stem seals and valve guides, there weren't so happy anymore! had the head cleaned, new bits put in and pressure tested by the engineers.

2. after 3000km's on the new rebuilt engine, i got similar symptoms, but smoke on idle too. when i started using plenty of oil and losing power, i pulled the motor again. the "new" oil rings were gone, but we found sidewall cracks in two of the pistons!!! replaced those with arias forged pistons - and havent had problems since (been about 10-11 thousand km's).

3. the smoking had now gone, but the turbo started making strange noises, and oil was dripping down the aluminium outlet pipe, from between the aluminium pipe and rubber hose. there wasn't really smoke, but i found major problems with the turbo. eventually replaced both wheels and shaft, and exhaust housing!

hope it helps!
