Hi guys

I am looking into Turbonetics turbochargers at the moment and would like to get some feedback from you guys. Whether it's first hand experience, reviews that you have read or just personal opinions please post and discuss the pros and cons.

Should I rather be looking at Garrett? If so, why?

Lastly please post up names and contact info for anyone able to put together a custom spec turbo(journal bearing) in JHB, preferably someone with a solid reputation :D

Thanks for your input :)

Hey Jon, I can not comment on terbonetics to much other than they are well known, as for a reputable turbo builder...see turbo exchange and Mr. turbo

As far as I'm aware the smallest flange turbonetics cater for is T3, so there is no direct fit for our T25/T28 needs.

Most turbonetics oil cooling only.
Most Garrets oil and water.
I know what I prefer.

Turbonetics are WELL known! r-e-s-p-e-c-t 8)

But if they aint got watercooling, then rather dont go for them. Watercolling gives u a much longer lasting turbo, and adds sum efficiency t the mix, since the turbo runs cooler!

Just find out before the time if the have watercooling.... my .2

turbonetics have a good rep.

turbo and nos connection in jetpark are agents for turbonetics, and will get you any combo thats available.

i bought forged pistons there some time ago, and got good service, and excellent knowledge!

Thanks for your responses gents, much appreciated :)

I went through to Turbo and Nos Connection, really impressed with the level of service I received. I was quoted R6500 for a custom speced T3/T4 Turbonetics turbo which I don't feel is a bad price, however I'm not quite sold. I will definitely be buying forged pistons and conrods from them in the future however :D

My gut feeling tells me me to rather go with Garrett 8)

ps. I am not looking for a direct bolt-on turbo so I'm not limited to the T25/T28 range.

Silly me :D

I have a 92 200sx with the CA18DET motor.

I would like the turbo to spool at around 3000rpm, be pulling hard at around 4000rpm and only run out of puff at around 8000rpm or after if possible.

now THAT is what you call wishfull thinking...

If you want 'puff' at 8k you need a T3 zorst housing, which means boost by 3.5k and full bore at prolly late 4k.

Disco potato will prolly do what you want, but i scheme it will run out of oomph towards the mid/latish 6k mark

ok!!!!!!

I had a custom garret turbo on my rotary - it boosted like an animal at 3000rpm but faded quickly - I now have a GT4288 and this boosts late but goes right threw my range and I can rev 8 without stress on my rotary......... Fact is you can have one or the other! Rotaries flow much more than a piston and I struggled to fins the best combo!!!!

Yes, I want the best of both worlds damnit :D

Actually I am quite happy to sacrifice early spool for top end power.
Definitely going with a T3 exhaust housing.

hehehaehea - was looking at garret's site...

I reckon you need one of these :P
http://www.turbobygarrett.com/turbobyga ... 1377_1.htm

hehaeheahaeh! - fokken 6l-12l - better start saving for a MAHOOSIVE stroker kit :P

I reckon if you want big power you need to either get like a ma se T66 journal bearing turbo. Or a GT2871R - in .84 AR - should give you power round the 7k mark still - specially if you got lekker cams

maybe if you could get 2 of the turbos that they fit to the smart 4two's... cuz you'll be using 900cc to power them.

hahahahahahaha!!! that's some funny sheeeeit. I scheme you need at least 6 cyl before thinking twin. like 3l plus - ie. 350Z with twin setup ;)
