To ping or not to Ping

Post by Riekert »

Hi!

I've got a bit of a issue regarding a rattling/pinging noise form my motor... I adjusted the timing to more or less to 15deg. Did it as described here : http://www.frsport.com/How-To-Set-Crank ... _t_25.html

now... the car idles at about 800rpm on the timing gun at 15deg.

but it I rev it it has a loud prrrrrrrrr sound... and it comes from the knocksensor side of the motor... sounds like just under the intake mani...

So i'm not sure if this is pinging or just a rattle? the only thing is it wasn't always there... and its only when you rev... if it idles its fine. even if you take it up the rev range slowly. but if you blip it a few times you hear it.

any suggestions??

your intake Positive Cranckcase Ventilation valve.

hmmm - i know the ca18 have these, pretty sure the SR have, but i cant remember where it is!

there is a marble (ballbearing) stopper in there to only allow airflow in one direction. my ca18 one used to rattle quite loudly under certain conditions!

on the intake side of the motor too!

what you do first is... enter command prompt then type
ping 192.sr20.motor.PCV valve -t

check if it replies

Problem is kicking a car costs a lot more than smacking a monitor, I'm not even sure why guys do that cos it's not the monitors fault
