Electric fans
Yesterday evening I finished the electric fan swop, swopped my normal fan for 2 12" electric fans with 2 fan switches, 1 switch is a lower temp and the 2nd a higher temp for backup, works good, thanks to freddy for the telephone support on the relay wiring.

Eletric Fans
No problem Derek. This electric fans issue, forced me to look into the matter in a different way. I decided to build a small electronic circuit for switching the fans, instead of the water thermal switches. I pick up a voltage signal from the existing thermal switch on the engine block. That signal gets compaired via a op amp and switches the fans on or off.
The circuit is working-now I need the fans. Will posts pics soon. Cost of this electronic switch is nothing more than R50-00, although all components were lying around in my hobby shop.

mine works off a temp. switch, i wouldent say mine runs much cooler, Ero_sennin, aren't you scared that your fan motors burn out because it runs the whole time aswell? Then I must add that I have 2X 12" fans witch pulls an average of 15 amps, this means your alternator is working harder now because of the extra charge, this works against the motor pullys, if it switches on and of on certain tempretures the alternater just work harder now and then. Ask Freddy he will explain a bit better but I wonder if it is good for the alternator and fan motors to run all the time when car is switched on....just an opinion

thats what i was wondering aswell thats why i posted, well if it burns out i've got two spare fans.
Well if someone can maybe tell/show a diagram of how to connect it to a thermostat or something then I can do that then.
Maybe wire in an over ride for what ever reason then aswell

Fans et al
only problem I have with "car is on the Fans are on" is that you need to be sure your battery is shapshap alla the time. The compression makes you use everything your battery can throw at it to crank the engine - as soon as your battery is going south then you kill it even more by first starting the fans and then the engine...
Also, how are ya gonna just sit and listen to your boom box without running the fans and engine?
Not to knock the idea (I trust hard-rigged switches more than thingies switching other thingies on without you knowing whether they are actually running - unless you have a LED showing your fans are running
or even better - an engine heat gauge (not just water heat))
At the moment I am also in the same boat - my viscous clutch on my fan is seized fast, so it eats more engine power... where did you get the electric fans then?
adios

by the way, about the oil - I went to my traditional healer and he gave me a recipe for "Chuckpiss" he calls it (no relation to THE CHUCK - my healer still has all his teeth). You take only 1 litre of turps (saves weight as well!!!), add to that a teaspoon full of black peppercorns, 2 tablespoons Tabasco, a cup of rough iron filings (helps keep everything inside nice and smooth and polished shiny), one human finger (something about showing the gears the right way and good luck... well, not for the previous owner of the finger), various veggies (learned from doctor Mantu's magic AIDS cure) and the left nut of the endangered brown eagle. Basically he says that the CA18DET is so moer-of-strong, you can put anything in there! He says if you want to fight over oil, either buy a Golf, or write to George Dubbaya Boost
now, where did I put that rubber chicken
Time to shaddap again

Are you on the e-mail system then I can send you a thing I drew in paint, very simple to understand, not as technical as in science class, I'm a simple guy all these big diagrams with resistors and and and.... looks so complicated.
It might not burn out, or it may, if you have spare it is good but if it happens on the highway too some far and gone place you are fuckerised...by murphy and chuck will tell you "Murphy must just try this with me...."

As widowmaker once said: "Sheeeeeyyyaaazzz!!"
Just stick with the original fan and you got no problems!
Fan clutch can be had from Universal Coolers http://www.hot4cold.co.za/html/viscous_clutches.html for about R1300. Same as the one for the 300ZX. Fit and forget!

the whole setup for the electric fans cost me R650, it's alot easier to replace and cost alot less, plus I get some power to boot, the extra amps it pulls from the alternator is nothing compared to the strain the viscues fan puts on the engin, to replace a fan will cost me R105....temp.switches....R70.. copper pipe in line with radiator pipe R250( never needs to be replaced)and I can get it anywhere I please midas, auto zone.... I then just want to ad that when jou viscues fan seases or brakes or whatever you are in the same boat as someone with blown elctric jans and stuff, I have heard of cases where the visques fan has distroyd radiators and waterpumps.
My opinion is electric is a win win situation if you apply it correctly
