After four years of no action, i monday started driving the sx again even though the interior only consists of MY seat.
You will all believe how much i missed taking the car for a drive and even though i planned to sell her upon completion......... that idea is now out of the window.
Anyway, a strange new gremlin stuck its head out
The motor was serviced, the usual procedure is followed (allow the motor to reach operating temperature before playing) and after driving for about half an hour i will let the motor idle for 5 minutes too cool and then she picks up a misfire which doesn't go away.
If you leave her for a while and then start up again the gremlin is gone???
Any ideas????
Even if you win the rat race, your still a rat....
FLY glad to hear you're keeping the car man!! Good decision!
Now, as for youre gremlin, Do you have a ca18 or a sr20? Either way, I'm 99% sure it's one of your ignition coils. I've had a similar problem before. When the coil gets hot, it misfires, then the next day it's fine again - for a while.
In your case the coil is getting too hot while idling with no airflow whatsoever.
Just remove the black centre cover with the Twincam 16 valve written on it, then next time it starts missing, pull the plugs off each coil individually, that will reveal who the culprit is!
