Street racing @ Killarney...... 26/07/08
Whos gonna join?
From WPMC Site:
LETTER TO STREETRACING COMPETITORS - Posted: 09/04/2008Dear Streetracing competitors
2008 Motorsport SA License requirements:
Competitors wanting to participate in Killarney streetracing (MSA affiliated) events need 2008 MSA license’s at a cost of R150.
Please note the following process:
1. You need to be a member of an MSA affiliated club – For this you can join the WPMC temporary membership by filling in the roster (no cost). You will receive a receipt indicating you are part of the list and MSA will be able to issue you with a licence. (This must be done at the WPMC office – Killarney)
2. Take you receipt to the MSA office (located opposite the WPMC office), fill in the MSA licence application form (3 pages). The licence fee is R150. There is an optional R250 medical cover which is highly recommended. They will then issue you with your 2008 licence card valid until the end of the year – 31st December 2008. This licence will be valid for all streetracing events at Killarney including the 400m sprint and Gymkhana events.
3. Once you have your MSA licence your first normal event (non-block buster event) will be free of charge if you come do the entry at pre-entries.
Please note that it is best to come to Killarney to get your licence well in advance and between the hours of 9am and 1pm week days.
You can contact MSA Cape Town branch on 021 556-1026 for further licence related queries.
For streetracing related queries please contact Paul at the WPMC office on 021 557-1639 .
Also note the temporary membership is not full membership and you will not be entitled to any benefits that WPMC members are entitled to such as reduced entry fees and extra complementary tickets.
Yours in racing

STREET RACING HISTORYThe club had great pleasure in introducing this series in 2003 to accommodate licensed street legal vehicles, kind of like the good old days of group N racing where the full interior must remain in the car. They must also ride on street legal tyres leaving everyone on an even playing field.
This is a great chance for street racers to bring it to the track and prove their stuff in a safe controlled environment and having their times official to see where they sit in their classes. The six classes have been structured to accommodate everything from a 1300cc Mini right up to a 7 litre V8.
Turbocharging increases the vehicle's capacity by 50%, while supercharging and nitrous oxide rate a 40% upgrade.
The Challenge consists of a 400m sprint race and a gymkhana which has added excitement. Much like a rally super-special stage, two vehicles are sent off together on different courses designed to be theoretically equal in terms of elapsed time. Laid out on the original infield stockie pit area and the oval, if the cars are evenly matched and the drivers make no mistakes, they should cross the finish line together. The day ends with sideways driving and a burnout competition, which is always enjoyed by spectators and competitors alike.
With this being our second year, we are continuing to fine-tune the series and believe we have a winning formula to attract the street cars to Killarney.
We have also established a fund from a percentage of the gate money, for the purpose of aiding previously disadvantaged competitors to get started in motorsport.
