Boost controller

Post by Charl »

This is just for interest sake. Need to do the motor before I turn the boost up.

How does one connect a setup like this?

This is how everything is at the moment.
In both images the objects says: "Arrow points toward wastegate actuater"

-The black pipe in the first picture (this is inside the car) runs to the top of the second picture between my index and middle finger.
-The black pipe in the second picture where my thumb is goes no where.
-The blue pipe on the right of the second picture is connected to the turbo that has a nipple
-The other blue pipe on the bottom is connected to the inlet manifold

Now what has to go where if i want to make use of the controller???

Howdy,

I have the same MBC inherited from Phinx,

The Small "T" fitting its "inline", The arrow points to your actuator and the opposite side is a boost source from your intake plumbing. The other branch of the "T" goes to the controllers bottom nipple, the one furtherest away from the adjusting knob, the other nipple is an air bleed, that you can plumb back into the cold side of the turbo after the MAF, or it can just vent to atmosphere if you wanna.

Here is a link for the installation PDF I got for it: http://homepages.acenet.co.za/sokar/S14/FG-GBCV-IC.PDF

Hope that Helps.

No i don't know whats going on here. I was hoping rezlo or calibrator would say something. I think I only saw one pipe coming from the wastegate on another car i saw.

If i saw correctly, then me having to pipes on the w'gate means this wastegate is ment to be on the boostpipe...???
But im just geussing  :? :?:

The way it works is like this.
There is a spring in the wastegate this will open at a preset boost pressure if you feed boost into the bottom pipe of the wastegate it "helps" the diaphragm overcome the spring pressure and the boost will be lower.

If you add boost to the top pipe it "helps" the spring and the boost will be higher.

The most common way is to only have a pipe connected to the bottom of the wastegate and bleed pressure off this with your controller.

If you want shitloads of boost then T yr controller into the bottom pipe and connect it to the top of the wastegate this will allow you to bleed pressure off the top of the wastegate and so regulate yr boost.

I suggest you get the EFI tuned for the new boost level before your engine goes up in a puff of smoke.

Haha. well there goes that theory... Again.
Ok I understand how wastegates work, but the two pipes are counteracting each other which didn't make much sense. But me be understanding now

I definitely won't increase the boost. I'm leaving everything as is. This was just a learning exercise.
