A T2.8/T3 Garrett journal bearing turbo

Post by 200SXSilviaSavage »

Hi guys. I've been looking around for different kinds of turbos and right now I'm really looking at getting the Garrett T2.8/T3 from Mr. Turbo for around 3500... Anyone have this turbo or something similar? When will it start spooling? What's your views on this turbo for a daily driver? Sorry for all the Q's, just that this is gonna be my first new turbo and I wanna do it right and want this setup to last for a long while... Thanx

This is a quote off Mr. Turbo's website with all the specs of the turbo:
"T28/T3 Turbo Charger
Compressor Wheel T3 (46.5 - 60mm)

Compressor housing T3 A/R 42
Turbine wheel T28 (46.3mm-53mm)
A/R.49 Turbine housing."

Hope that helps...

The compressor side seems ok, worried about the exhaust, AR is a little small, a good upgrade would be a .64 AR, I wonder if anyone else is running one of these.

Also remember if its a T3 exhaust housing the flange wont fit a SX manifold, you'll need a custom one.

Sokar isnt the T3/T4 flange the same as ours?? If you go with the 0.49AR turbine housing you will spool very early.

Yeah thanx hey. This turbo is a T28 exhaust turbine and housing I think :? That's why it's a T28/T3... When will a .64 start spooling?

Woah! Okay guys I think 4000rpm is a bit high for a daily driver... When do you think the T28/T3 will start spooling? My standard turbo T25 started with 0.1 bar at 1950rpm...

Seriously widow, this is a genuine Garrett turbo going for 3500... If you want a Garrett ball bearing, then you're looking at around the 10K range.

Hi 200sxsilviasavage, I am glad you are doing some ground work on a turbo upgrade as I also have been looking at this as well. Mysx is a daily drive and I currently have a T25 running at 1 bar which is not ideal and was thinking of a T28 or T3. I would also like to hear from those who have upgraded their turbos. has anyone upgraded to a T28 and what was the improvement. I personally think a T3/T4 would be too laggy for daily drives.
