This will however be interrupted with some Regional Main Circuit racers doing a demo (known as the 8 Lap Chase Event ) on the Half Main in their highly modified racing machines. The evening will end off with the final drifting competition promising to bring out the top drifters including an Imported Japanese Judge.
Ottery Petrol & Diesel, (OPD) have opted to come on board for this years streetcar events and will be offering prizes for the first of this years blockbuster street car battles.

The NDS (National Drift Series) Competition at Killarney Race Track – 8th March
The sound, the experience, the sensations of drifting are often described with clichés such as “poetry in motion” and “synchronized dancing”. As oft used as these statements are they are true to a form of motorsport that is currently the fastest growing 4 wheel sport in the world; Drifting. No surprise then that South Africas NDS has taken a winning international formula and adapted it for the South African market. All over the world drifting has taken off in leaps and bounds and has quickly become a multi million dollar industry with big corporates such as Goodyear and Dunlop fusing with what is probably Japans greatest export to date.
This year sees the introduction of a National Drift Series tailor made to suite the SA market and local drifters from all over the country will be competing in regional events. There will be four official events on the calendar and many practice dates. With celebrity drivers such as Steve Wyndam, Gunther Drodskie, Kosie Swanepoel and many others, the series is set to take the South African motorsport world by storm and already cars are being built specifically for the purpose of going sideways. 350Kw rear wheel drive monsters with trick suspension and committed pilots are starting to emerge and on the other end of the scale rear wheel drive runabouts are also set to take on the bigger, more powerful machinery.
The first of these events will take place in Cape Town on the 8th of March at Killarney Raceway. Hiroka Firuse, the ambassador for the very popular D1 Series will be flown in to judge the event. With the D1 series having become popular in Europe, Asia and the Americas, Africa is the next logical step for the multi million dollar franchise. Drivers from all over the country are anticipating what can be described as the culmination of the SA drift scene. I fondly remember being in the UK a few years ago when the Brits were on the cusp of the drift revolution. Those familiar feelings are fluttering back as the tide has turned towards Africa.
By the end of the season the battles waged would have been won and the dust on South Africas first drift series would have settled. The Question still remains though: Who will be South Africas very first NDS Drift King?[/code]
