heat

Post by Charl »

yes its a shield. look at the top pic, i think its asbestos thats rapped round it. just to protect the litle pc box behind it. another shield just behind the turbo, between the abs and exhaust.it does get hot, but ive never seen it glo red lol. and there is a little blue pipe for the boost controler just infront of the turbo. that doesnt have any heat marks or melt spots, the brake peadal has never gone soft either. so i think its fairly safe. no paint pealing off the bonnet either. haha

OK, whatI like is your FMIC approach. I think Derek must take serious note of this. A good reason for upside down, much shorter piping. It makes sence to me. You say 190Kw Rw? Nothing changed or upgraded insid the engine? The S13 CA18DET handles all well? What about injectors running that boost? Your feul pump? Bigger? Or does the diktator take good care of most? I am stupid with these things, but I am impressed.

motor

Post by Charl »

only thing i think with upside down intercooler is that most of the cooling is done at the botom of the cooler where air can go through the air scoop. now all the hot air is going in at the top and and out the top where cooling is minimum. think power loss is minimum though.

the motor was rebuilt about 40 000km ago. i am trying to find the people that did it to know exactly what is in it. so im not entirely shure if its nissan parts. will let u know. but injectors and pump is stock. dicktator is brilliant, just need some one to sow me how to tune it coz im getting 5km/per litre with normal driving.

i have never had it running at full boost, the boost controler is disconnected.
but i have dyno papers showing it putting out 190kw on full boost so that seems to me its getting the fuel through sufficiently

wastegate

Post by Charl »

I had nothing to do with the instalation. i think its there cos there was no room to put it on the manifold. couple of mechanics said it works... but my turbo is just working overtime. permanently.. i dont know why they didnt put an internal wastegate on?

Even though I dont like Dictator much it is possible to get better consumption than you are getting.
AS for the wastegate on the boost pipe in the early days everybody used pop off valves in the boost pipe to regulate boost. Look at the porsche racing cars etc

The downside is that you are venting air that has been cooled so the load on the intercooler is very high.

The use of a wastegate is unnecesary they should have used a dump valve and a solenoid from a boost source to allow it to open it should also have been mounted before the intercooler to take some of the load off it and reduce the intake air temps.
