Sheez dude, you're going from solid reliability to solid unreliability

No they are not. Sorry to be blunt, but the only real source of body parts is a scrap yard (or buy two, one for spares). Engine parts are easier to come by 'cos you can buy an import engine or there's always someone selling theirs 'cos they're putting in a bigger engine, etc.
who services them
You will have to service and maintain it yourself. Give it to most mechanics and you will end up with more problems (including financial) than you had previously. I'm not kidding.
(cos i'd b using it as a daily drive)
Eish. Dude, this is not a Honda. It's not that reliable. And it can chow petrol if it's been modded. Most people have had major problems, and unless the engine was properly rebuilt recently, you can expect problems (it is a 16 year old car afterall). If you want it as a daily drive, make sure you got a backup car that you can loan when your SX spends 6 weeks at a mech.
n is it worth buying 1 with 170K already on the clock??
That's actually pretty low milage. Don't forget the age. But also, some of the odometers are faulty (like mine) and don't display true milage 'cos the gears that drive them slip sometimes and they end up not counting all of the milage. Many sellers are known to turn back the clock too.
i need a ride by this w/end n so far it's the SX or a neat e36 328i. ne advice would really b appreciated
If I was buying an SX, I wouldn't do it in a hurry. If you haven't test driven at least 3, then you won't have a good idea of what's a good one and what's not.

A lot of guys will disagree with what I said above, especially because I'm being blunt about it. But experience shows that I'm mostly right. Yes there are the odd exceptions where people have been running happily and reliably for very long.

Good luck!

hey toby remind us again why you like the 200sx!!!???!!! :? :? :?

jayD - wassup dude...

lots of toby's cynicisms are correct. except that body are available from agents, and if they dont have them, they will import them from japan for you. import engines to fit into the sx are freely available.

most mechanics will stuff up your mechanicals.

it wont be as reliable as a honda might.

if i were in a hurry i would rather buy the BMW. thats a nice car too, but can be expensive as well.

do yourself a favour and learn up on turbo engines. it will always help you in the long run to know the concepts and principles of your powertrain.

anyway - good luck. 170k km's is quite low. i bought mine with about 255k km's. it had to be rebuilt

But experience shows that I'm mostly right. wow! when im big i wanna be like toby!

and youve got a sponsor now for the bandwidth, so stop chasing people away! (but i can see your point, we already have a JD and a Jayboy, so JayD will just confuse people :D )

@ JayD - hello there! 170k km sounds low, and if it has no faults and is in perfect condition, DONT TAKE IT! there must be a catch! rather give me their phone number and address so I can go sort them out

@toby! you wanna tell me why i see more sx's (supposed to be rare) and sentras of those years than preludes (without turbos) and ballades and other old hondas? mmm thought so... just because i see a lot of new getz's on the road doesnt mean a getz is better than an sx... check if your mostly right in a couple of years!

Well I bought my SX with 210k on the clock.... Had it for 6 months and still no problems*

And I'm not as smart as Toby and VC

This isn't a daily driver... It hates traffic and suip petrol like a alcoholic on happy hour... more of a weekend car...

BUT

and this is a big BUT! If you like or a stronger word.... LOVE the SX, like everyone on this forum, then by all means buy it!

And like Toby said you'll need a car on the side if you drive a SX....

also if you need a car in a hurry go for the BMW... it'll normally be a safer bet.

*If Murphy hears this I'm screwed!!

The previous comments are all spot on as far as the 200sx is concerned I'm sorry to say. It's still a great car when it's running though.

The e36 328i is a fantastic car if you can find one in good nick, quite expensive to maintain as they also getting on in years but at least parts are readily available. If you buy one then take it to Shaun Singh at Tune Tech for maintenance, top-notch workshop.
Diesel power, hmm, yes, I think I'll have some of that.

about the gas guzzling...

i recently filled up my car for the first time in over a year. i normally only put 20 litres in because of a leak, but i fixed that.

anyway, i've been watching the consumption closely and here are the results:

1st 1/4 tank - clock on 130km's.

2nd 1/4 tank - clock on 250km's.

3rd 1/4 tank - clock on 380km's.

i estimate i will hit 500km's on the 50 litres i put in. thats the same kilometerage as my 2.5 4x4 xtrail gets.

i dont think its so worse for a performance car that i once thought was running rich (purely because of the lack of performance and smell)!!!

thanks alot 4 the honesty my man, bt i really love the car n wouldn't mind working on it myself and wen i say daily drive it's nothing heavy, i rarely sit in traffic so fuel isn't a massive issue. i'm a dj n my main travelling is at night on w/ends n i wouldnt want issues @ 4am... i'm gonna go check it out again and i'll take it 2 aa on friday 4 a good check. the thought of modding it is way 2 tempting 2 let go, i'll keep u guys posted
