Nope... and why? Some people lighten the fly-wheel by skimming and other tricks performed by engineers... I don't believe in it, robs you of torque.

Dont want to go the skimming way, too dangerous. know its less, but throttle response is insane, also if your car is modded enough you wont even feel the change in torque.

There are Alu Flywheels but they are full imports and very expencive

Also there is a way to get a nice Flywheel for cheap.
The CA18DET motor can be modified to fit a SR20 flywheel, this will allow the use of the much cheaper SR20 Flywheel kits.

But we have to use a special starter then

THat still sounds expensive!! Well guess the import thing will have to happen, but not now! much much later.

If it was availeble here local at good price I would have bought one now.

No it doesnt, its a common misconception, its not altering your combustion chambers so your "bang" remains the same, no change in torque.

What it does do is rob you of inertia, a flywheel is basically a gyroscopic dynamo (or "mechanical battery" if you'd like) More mass = more stored energy, less mass = less stored energy, basically means a lighter flyweel will absorb (rev up) and loose (uphill driving etc) energy alot quicker...

Interesting read at http://www.damninteresting.com/?p=909

In my personal opinion the CA's flywheel is friggin heavy (heavier than my 325i flywheel) so it can shed a bit of weight, just dont go nuts and make it look like swiss cheeze, we will all laugh at you when it shatters at 7000rpm and cuts you off at the knees, stumpy :P

well my crank is lighter then my flywheel honestly.

That thing is damn heavy

Well I have skimmed my fly wheel and the only problem I have is a slightly lumpy idle, not enough weight to sustain the motor between strokes.

yeah that is to be expected.

How was the difference from the stock flywheel?

It revs ALOT quicker now.

Hmm never picked up a Single lump Idle...

And My cams are alot more aggressive.. Its smoother but does feel slower to me in all honesty

the stock flywheel is 13kg's!

i weighed mine.

then i took it to the engineer to remove "meat".

he did his best, but said that taking off more than 3kg's would make things very dangerous.

i didnt want a life threatening flywheel - so i paid and smiled at my 10kg flywheel!!!

i'm short enough, i dont need to be shorter!
