noisy lifters

Post by 007zhr »

hi guys..

the last time I changed oil, the lifters became quiet - after a while though, they started becomming noisy again and now they're back up to sounding crap... the current oil in there is the castrol Edge 10W60... she's not yet due for an oil change, think its less than 3000 km since the last change...

firstly, whats the cheapest and quickest way to resolve...

2nd - what damage can noisy lifters cause.

Thanks.

Howzit
I've heard about people running on diesel oil to quiet lifter because the detergent in the oil it cleans the passages and better oil pressure in the lifters. I'm not sure what effect diesel oil will have on these motors and suggest you speak to a pro befor you try it.

i've run on shell helix diesel oil and it was all fine. but the expensive one in the black bottle.

lifters that are collapsed will make your engine run crap cos valves wont open and close properly.

as for sorting them out, there really isnt a cheap and nasty method. you gonna have to get them out of there, and replace any that cant move like they're supposed to. you're also gonna have to bleed them all after removal, and before you replace them.
