CA18 is a baby RB25
I've been reading this thread... looking at that block and head... its near identical except for 2 extra cylinders... http://www.sxoc.co.uk/vbb/showthread.php?t=260568
Man I would love a RB in the SX

Lets put it this way, if you have enough money for a RB swap, then a set of springs or coilovers wont be a problem, but yeah, you wont cope on the stock suspension and ill need to get something beefier.jon wrote:What's the weight difference between the RB25 and the CA18?
Surely you would have to change your suspension setup to cope with the extra weight up front?
Captain Slow to the rescue!
Well the Cam covers not really but can be made to fit, But the Ca18 head suffers from the same head drainage problems as the RB.
The RB injectors fit 444cc does anyone have a set?
Most of the design is the same, both are excellent motors and the RB has been proven to make power time and again but I still personally think that the CA18 was sold short for the SR20. Don’t get me wrong I might be going a bit off topic here but if the Aftermarket support existed for the CA18 as for the SR20 people would be changing there tune
Wiki Info – Now lets compare Apples with Apples…….
CA18
The CA18DE is a 1.8 L DOHC 16v (1809 cc) engine produced from 1987 through 1989. It produces 131 hp @6400 rpm and 159 nm @5200 rpm. It has the same head as the CA18DET, however it did not use a crank girdle nor piston oil squirters that are found on the CA18DETs.
SR 18
The SR18DE is a 1.8 L (1838 cc) DOHC engine. It produces 125 PS (92 kW) @6000 rpm and 156 nm @4800 rpm
Wiki Info – Now let’s compare Apples with Pears…….
SR20DE engine - 140 hp (104 kW) @ 6400 rpm and 132 ft•lbf (179 N•m) of torque @ 4800 rpm
Not Bad , but Remember may the FLOW be with you

Now Dont get me Wrong I like the CA18 and this is not a SR bashing thread but it just sad that Nissan never took a second look at the motor.
Like the CA18Vet , Just joking or CA20DET (none hillbilly made)

i've been driving my sx in its current condition for exactly a week now.
its smooth, its responsive, its strong, its rev happy, and i'm loving it.
the ca18det in this kind of condition is an awesome motor to be in control of. i totally agree with phinx. the ca18 was sold short, and i agree with vlade - they've been misused and abused for 15 years!
if only i could get the kind of power the RB's get, at the same low revs, then it would be perfect.
and ...
I'VE READ THE FRIGGIN GUIDELINES!!!
