Search for coilover reviews on google.

I'm not trying to say they're bad, just to be cautious is all. Maybe they're fantastic, are there any members with D2 products installed on their cars?

Also refer to Vlade's suspension options thread.

you dont need to compress the spring, just use the trolley jack under the existing shock to compress it from underneath, this takes starin off the bottom bolts, take them out, then release the jack.... makes life easier if you dont have those items....the new coilover is shorter so goes in easy.... D2 stuff is shit... been in a car with it and it makes a noise when you drive like its gonna fall out....try the ones from CT, heard they not bad, and for the price, really good

Japspec, youve been in a car with full inverted racing D2's, Ive been in cars with top of the range tein's and HKS's that make twice the noise, Invertered coil overs WILL make noise, if you knew how inverted struts worked you would know why. If any of your parking lot of cars work this weekend come to the drags and see how nice the regular D2's work compared to the equivelant spec'd teins (at twice the price).

99% of coil over failure is due to miss installation or abuse, There are just as many problems with HKS, tein and other brands, do a search on those ;)

Rezlo sells D2 - I have Tein - I dont give a shit what you people buy... i know enough about suspension to say that if its rattles fucked up, i dont want it... mine doesnt - his does inverted or not i dont care, its shit, sounds shit, is cheap shit... if you tight buy it... if you not, buy DG5, cos thats what we all really want anyway

This is what I dig about forums, everyone can have their say. I do find it quite amusing when people get all butt-hurt because their opinion isn't shared by everyone but oh well

At the end of the day you need to do your own research and come to your own conclusions.

I'm personally leaning towards a koni damper and spring combo as I don't see myself ever changing any setting so coilovers would be a waste for me.

Actualy I dont sell D2 anymore.

Jon, those koni set up's are pretty good, I went from Pensky to koni in my chrysler and loved them, cost effective, adjustable and reliable.

rezlo - how about the koni coilovers that are available here in SA now, through Koni SA???

they height adjustable coilovers, are valved for the particular type of driving the owner wants, and the damper can be adjusted hard and soft (although its by removing the damper, not with a convenient knob on top).

those kits for the s13 retail for less than 7 grand.

Honestly, if your going to go past shock&spring combo for performance I would not suggest a kit like the above, especialy if you run your car on the street, spring pre-load is vital to setting a car up to have nice comfort yet good performance, with those you can not, also removing them every time to set them becomes a huge hastle, took be 3 weeks messing about with my dampers every day to get them 100% for street, If i had to remove them every time I would have gone nuts! Always try get somthing that externaly adjustable and has ride height and spring load separated.

There are a few cheaper coil overs that give you top end name brand quality and this type of functunality without the pricetag, Megan, D2, K-sport and one or two others, Most will slander them, the majority of those have never experienced them and just go on rumour. I have been in many S14's with HKS's, Tein's, apexi, ectr and I still recon D2 and K-sport take the cake in drivability and reliability, No coil over will last on public streets, so why pay the added $$$ for somthing that will wear out, normaly within 10% of the service life of units double to tripple the price?. Ohh and try having a tein or HKS coil over re-built in SA :) as a few people are finding out with leaking and worn out units that have not even been in their cars for 40 000km's and cost R14k +

Just my 2c.

What do you suggest for road/occasional track use?

KYB AGX shocks and decent springs, my personal fav are tein S.tech or BG's

I have had bad experiences with eibach on the S14's and S13's with the vehicles not sitting level, and not being very ballanced.

If you have the time and the money you can use coil overs and spec the spring rates to your driving style, but it take a lot of work and money, I was ordering in the D2's at one stage with more suitable spring rates for street usage, but at the end of the day its all personal preference, just remember that to stiff on the streets besides making your life hell also does not perform because if you hit the smallest bump it throws you off line, which also makes them mega dangerious in the rain.

My fav for track and street on the S14 is 6kg F and 4.5kg R, if its mostly street and a little track go 4f 3r (same as the HKS drag spec
