Forged Pistons

Post by Phinx »

Good Morning....

Does any one have a pair of pistons for a CA18DET, I have gotten quotes but I'm looking for something in the R 3500 Range. If I cant get its fine.

Just asking Should anyone have a pair they want to part with

yeah those look way different to the arias pistons installed in my engine!!!

mine looked exactly like stock, which has a flat top and valve reliefs!!!

that looks like it may make the compression hectic low!!!

Did I miss something, again? Is that why you have been quiet lately? Engine giving problems or are you just planning a rebuild on the side with massive power or just for that rainy day?

Boost is the devil :!: :!: :!:

I need reliability Now, This motor is pissing me off.
So the lower comp will be welcome.

But tanaka need to come back to me

Why would you want a lower compression, say good bye to your power?! And if you not going to boost it why you going forged, whats wrong with your pistons?? Why dont you just rebuild the motor back to standard spec then the reliability will be there??

Dont take this the wrong way...
Why would you want a lower compression, say good bye to your power?
Low end off boost power, Yes, It will lower my deternation (cant spell today) threshold and give me the reliability I want.

And if you not going to boost it why you going forged, whats wrong with your pistons?
Becuase Nissan wants silly money for oversized (turbo) pistons but for reliability, I don't want to open up the bottom end again in a long time
Why dont you just rebuild the motor back to standard spec then the reliability will be there??
No it wont, AE is not that good and In all honesty I don't know how this motor lasted 15 year, The poor guy that got it new.

The motor is under more strain then it was stock so a stock rebuild just wont cut it..

I would rebuild it the same way but with the same compression unless I am boosting 2 bar.
Low end off boost power
Lowering the compression wont give you more low down power, yes it will lower the detonation threshold but the power will come down.

Ok so Toyota sell forged and ceramic coated pistons for the 4AGZE motor for R350ea which is a steel. I know the CA18DET bore is 83mm and 4AGZE is 81mm but the 3S-GTE motor is 86mm (which is only 1.5mm per side of cylinder wall).

This might be a far cheaper option and the pistons are readily available. I havent gone into the actual specs on the pistons beside the bore sizes but I would check it out.

The compression ratio on 4AGZE motor was 8.0:1 then raised to 8.9:1 but dont the clearance in the head so would have to find that out to determine the CR.

Possibly More torque, And My static compression will drop agreed..
but if the loss of power buy me reliability , Im game
