COIL PACKS- maintenance etc.
How would you know if your coil packs need cleaner?? How would you clean them?? Do you get aftermarket replacements??

If the idle is a bit lumpy, of if it is misfiring, you can just use carb cleaner to clean out the rubber boot. You can't clean the actual coil since it's sealed. Freddie might have a spare coil or two if you looking to buy.

No my idle is a tad lumpy because the bottom end asembly is too light, Its just when I have been putting around for 2 weeks or so, most of it under 2500rpm, the car misses just off idle and im not sure why. I thought it was the plugs fouling because they were too cold so I went back to std plugs, definately made it better but this morning it was there but VERY slightly.
Hey, the reason why your motor picks up abit of a misfire after driving at around 2500 rpm is because your spark plugs are fouling up. The spark plug is not reaching its actual full operating tempreture. You have two choices - 1) you can put a hotter plug in (lower operating tempreture) OR 2) just bang it from time to time so the plug can burn itself clean.

You also driving running the motor below actual boost, then the engine runs a bit richer to companstate for power loss, once turbo starts boosting it different. try running a higher heat range than standard, but remember under heavy boosting it will put a lot of heat into the cyl head.
What make of spark plug do you use?
cheers

That slite misfire is normal due to a bigger exhaust, because there is no or little back pressure this has an effect on you combustion cycle, now and then the petrol and the spark mis each other in 1 chamber then only combust with next cycle witch gives the little backfire, this is normal.
As for the idling, I have not seen or heard an sx(ca engine) that idles 100% even, if you know of someone please find out how he got this right so the rest of us can sort it out.

Mine, for a good while, idled 100% smooth - no misfire, no backfire! Like I said, the reason it wasn't doing that before is the vacuum line that was disconnected. I also cleaned out the coils. Also got new injectors which helps because their spray pattern is even and balanced between the cylinders. If you don't have equal compression in the cylinders, that can also throw out the idle a bit. And finally, having the AFM cleaned out also helps even out the idle.

Yup standard exhaust, although I've been told the silencer sounds like a sandbox at the moment so it's probably quite restrictive.
Apart from all the trouble I had with the workshop guys, the injector swap went well. It cost me R4000 for 4 injectors (I have no idea what size they are), and R3500 to remap the ECU to cope with them. I did not increase my boost (despite the guys from the workshop suggesting I do). I now have lots more torque in the low revs, and the idle is smooth. However, soon after I got the car back, the injectors started leaking again. I took it back and they refitted the seals which stopped the leak. Now I see that it's started to leak AGAIN, although very slightly. It might be the seals.

The motor is boosting when I drive, on an average trip I get 0.4Bar. I gave the car a good run and now all is well, so the plugs must be fouling. Its just a pain in the ass because the way I drive it makes the ride comfortable, if I rev much higher the boost comes in very strong and the torque make it uncomfortable. I am using NGK's I think, number 6 heat range which is std.
Do you get aftermarket coils ay the way?? Has any one thrown away their coil packs and is running HT Leads??
