Ok. So all of the junk is now out of the trunk.
It took 10 times longer getting the seam sealer and sound deadening off the rear arches then I did getting the sound deadening on the floor and tunnel out. Glad this is over...

Here are a few pics of how the trunk and rear arches look all cleaned up. Still need to get the floor 100% cleaned up.

Remove the rear seat supports from around the rear shock towers, makes the interior much cleaner looking.

I was thinking the same thing. It seems like they are just spot welded on. I googled and a lot of guys have removed them. The cage guy is coming over on Sat to discuss the cage and the ideas I have.

Public opinion, dodger or through type? I'm not going to keep the door panels so there will be a portion of the dash that will stick out in no mans land where the door panels normally meets the dash. I was thinking for running the front legs around the dash in this area so as to round it off. Otherwise is just this funny profile not matching anything. At least the legs would 'hide' it a little. I'm funny about the little details...

How did you guys remove the rear seat supports? I was hoping that you could just pop them off with a hammer and chisel so I tried it on one quickly now and low and behold, I tore the bottom metal. F#$k. Pissed off with myself now. Guess grinding on the weld until it pops is the correct way to do it then. Luckily the tear is small but it's still there...

Drill to just before the bottom material? Worry about going too far and sitting with a swiss cheese floorpan... Will give it a try quickly.

Tried the drill route and that didn't work so lekker. Then got the grinder out and gave that a go. The results are less than impressive. Will make a plan to get the stuff removed next week. Enough suffering for one day...

So finally got round to weighing the sound deadening. All in was only 11kg's. Not a big saving as I'll be putting around 3 times as much back in with the cage. But I didn't do it for the weight. Wanted a more clean look inside the car. Some of the sound deadening had to come off in any case for the plates to get welded on and I didn't want it to look patched so it all had to go.

If all goes well the cage will go in this weekend. Then I can prep and paint the inside over the next few weeks. Want to do the floor black to prevent it from looking dirty easily and the upper part white. The idea with white is to get it to look clean. I don't need to make statements so no crazy purple/green/pink cages for me...
