so i read on sxoc.co.uk that you can use the e36 M3 discs for your R32/Z32 front brake swop.

the front rotors have similar dimensions, 'cept that they are 315mm diameter as opposed to 280mm.

but the spares shops dont have locally manufactured (alpha) discs available for the M3.

the comparison is as follows.

E36 / 300

A (dia) 315 / 280
B (bore) 162 / 154
C (offset) 53 / 54
D (thickness) 28 / 28-30

and the thread also has an adapter plate diagram to spacer the calipers to fit the 315mm disc.

what to do now, other than sit for hours going through the alpha brake catalogue?

what?

onto my standard discs?

those things are so skinny! something like 22 or 24mm.

need 28mm minimum.

My discs now are 22mm thick and working perfect, bare in mind that mine are the 26mm caliper not the 30mm one. My new discs will 26mm thick. I have read about guys fitting the Z32 caliper to std discs.

even better is the chrysler 300c's disc.

its 343mm diameter, 55 height, and 28mm thickness!

and you can get from alfa brakes, locally!

gawd - will 343mm with calipers fit under my 17 mags???

NOPE, my 225mm discs leave me with about 5mm clearance between the caliper and mag. I also had to modify the caliper to take the bigger disc, anything bigger than 280mm with require some modifying.

225mm or 325mm - i'm guessing 325mm.

and i know about the modding - thats not the problem. the problem is the trying to get a locally manufactured disc.

so i should look for something of 325mm or less, and 280mm or more!

Do you know what mods it takes to get the 325mm disc to work in the Z32 caliper??

The problem is the disc rubs on the caliper even when the spacer plate is in. I had to use a milling maching to mill down the insides of the caliper.

With 325 mm you will have to have 18" rims.mine is 330mm in front and I had to also mill out the arch on the inside of the caliper to make it fit

No you dont, mine are 325mm and I run 17" mags. I have about 5mm clearance between caliper and mag, which gives the guys who balance the wheels a bit of a problem with their weights  .

I think also alot has to do with the design of the mag when in comes to clearance issues

yes i know about this stuff!!! you take me for a nana hey???

anyway - found some more options because i went through the entire catalogue, i've got them on a spreadsheet.

the two closest matches are:

1. kia sorento 4x4. this is a nice match because the disc height is perfect, and the diameter is 302mm. but the disc max thickness is 28mm.

2. VW t5 transporter tdi 16" wheels. this is a nice match because the disc thickness is perfect at 29.5mm. but the disc height is 55.5mm (1.5mm taller than the zx disc). its also 307.8mm diameter which is nice!

I think before you go finding suitable matches, find out the prices on the those disc. Also how you going to fit that to the hub??
