The Renault F1 Roadshow is coming to the streets of Sandton on Sunday 29th July bringing with it not one, but two ING F1 Team Cars.
Now into his eleventh season in F1 and third season with Renault, seasoned driver Giancarlo Fisichella will spearhead the roadshow team. Nelson Piquet Junior, recently appointed as a test driver for the Renault F1 Team, will also be seen in action on the day.
"For the majority of South African motor sport enthusiasts, Sunday 29 July offers a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and is an experience not to be missed," says Claudio Camera, vice president of communications and corporate affairs at Renault South Africa.
"At no charge, the public will have the opportunity to get close to our cars, team and drivers, something which they cannot do at an international grand prix weekend."
"We promise a fun-filled day for the family with fantastic entertainment and a non-stop action line-up which kicks off at 10h00 and carries on right through to late afternoon. Be sure to get there early and secure prime vantage points in Fredman Drive or West Street."
The race day organisers and the Sandton Metro authorities would like to warn the public that sections of West Street (between Rivonia and Fredman), Fredman Drive (between West and Rivonia) as well as two lanes of Rivonia Road will be closed to traffic from 20h00 on Friday 27 July until 06h00 on Monday, 30 July. Motorists are cautioned to use alternative routes and to allow extra travel time during this period.
The public is also urged to make use of the various Park and Ride facilities that will be operational on Sunday, 29 July. This service will be available at Inanda Club, Sandown High School, Wanderers Club and Innesfree Park. Ample parking, security and Metro buses will be available from 08h00 in the morning.
The 20-lap Cycle Lab Sprint Challenge will kick off the activities at 10h00 and will be followed by a street parade that will keep the crowd entertained. A number of professional acts including drummers, a variety of dancers, rickshaws in action and an acrobatics display that will amaze, are all part of the day's entertainment line-up.
Not to be missed is Terry Grant, a top international stunt driver, who will thrill the crowd with his dare-devil antics behind the wheel.
The days' action wouldn't be complete without the power and performance of a range of Renault vehicles. The new Mégane Renault Sport R26 limited edition makes its debut, and the public will also be treated to the exciting Mégane Trophy as well as two Clio Toys - their international premiere!
The Renault Expo Village and Paddock area on Nelson Mandela Square will be open to the public from Friday, 27 July. At the Paddock, the public will have the opportunity to view the technical set-up of a F1 paddock area complete with the 2 ING Renault F1 Team vehicles as well as the 15-man technical crew. Between Friday and the track day on Sunday, the two F1's engines will be powered up at intervals, an experience not to be missed.
In addition to the full range of current Renault vehicles on view in the display area, there will also be a selection of imports never-before-seen in South Africa. These include the new Mégane Renault Sport R26 which will launch Sunday's Roadshow, the Mégane Trophy as well as the two Clio Toys.
The Expo Village is also home to the stands and exhibits of the Renault F1 Roadshow partners - SuperSport, 5FM and the Star Motoring. A Bridgestone stand and Renault F1 Boutique complete the Expo Village.
Down at the track, young children can try their hand behind the wheel of Renault F1-styled pedal cars, and you can get your photograph taken in spectacular fashion! Food stalls and toilet facilities will be available at intervals along the track. Emergency vehicles, traffic authorities and a high level of security will be in place throughout the day
This is the first time that this roadshow will be seen in action outside of major cities in Europe and Asia and is a significant coup for Renault SA and South Africa says Dr Jean-Jacques Le Goff, managing director of Renault SA.
"As a major automotive manufacturer and a top F1 team, Renault has always sought to combine technical excellence, approachability and fun. Renault's philosophy is to broaden the sport's appeal to the widest possible audience, while taking our fans closer to the heart of the action."

wooah sounds intense
Well this sounds like a really cool event. I have two ideas though..
1) who wants to help me borrow 1 of the 2 cars? Lets see how far the tires will last on the way to the coast! Metro is not going to catch you & I can almost guarantee a spot on the TV news.
2) how cool will it be if a modded sx joins the race and drifts around keeping up with the f1's
