I have not read the full thread, but here is my honest opinion, I've been fitting filters and stuff for the last 7 years, was still very young when I started out.
I originally only loved the BMC filters, until I saw it cannot withstand heat as the other filters and the BMC got sucked into the turbo, lots of damage, so I went over to K&N, all good and stuff, but then tried the high quality Simota and it outflowed and outfiltered even the K&N and BMC, got a flowchart here somewhere aswell.
And I do offroad racing with my Jeep, go through deep mud and dusty roads and sand dunes, a paper filter lasts 5 minutes and its clogged up, you loose so much power, on this I tested the filtration of all the filters, and the high quality Simota came out top, its also the most durable, but be warned there are a copy of Simota doing its rounds, on it is just Simota, the geniun says, Simota [R] Racing Sports, and its a very high polished caps on top and bottom, which makes it even stronger and its got a decent power stack.
As for performance of cone over flatpad, being paper. You will not get more power, more boost, as its regulated by the dumpvalve, but you will get boost quicker and last longer, due to the filter being more efficent.
I clean my filters everytime I wash the engine bay, on all my cars, at least once a month, I'm just that way, seen guys running an un-oiled Simota for almost 100 000km and still nothing happened, and very little went through the filter aswell.
Its also a personal choice, but if you look at the world market, BMC is one of the weakest selling, K&N is dropping sales and Simota is growing by the day.
I've been involved with Simota and the manufacturing the last year, they want to build a filter for specific uses,a nd their development that goes into a filter is really huge, yeah maybe K&N did do that aswell, but that was ages ago and they have not yet done anything since. Simota got a development team, that just work on new designs and improving current models, etc.
Shoot me down if you want to its just my opinion and what I have experienced.

Strangely enough I just replaced a Simotoa with a BMC and the customer reports more power on a 2.0 turbocharged car. The filter has yet to be sucked into the turbo as well.but then tried the high quality Simota and it outflowed and outfiltered even the K&N and BMC
I will let nyou know what happens on a 300kw turbo car in the next week or 2 when I replave the Simota with a BMC

I've got a simota on at the moment, i think its the fake one. Ok some say the cone and sum the flatpanel. but if i drill the stock airbox with a k&n filter in, will it perform better?sound better than the fake simota cone?
Ya sorry if you guys covered it already it. havent read through the whole tread.
