Howdy, just my 2c...

In the end it depends what you want to go for, I totally feel the R30k you spend on an S14 is worth it, I've spent alot more than that and my car is still stockish! Look at it this way, the S14 was the evolution of an S13 (Duh), The S14 is more refined, the interior is better, the ride quality is great, also its a more mature car, it also has its advantages: 4 Pot brakes standard, Stiffer chassis, Neutral steering... Did I mention the interior? :P the S13 guys might flame me for this, but stock for stock the S14 is better, if it wasnt then nissan wouldnt have released it.... BUT an S14 is 80k or so, get a good S13 for 50k and spend R30k on it and it will kick the S14...

So do you want an 80k car? or a R50k car to be "improved" upon.

Interestingly enough, I agree with a previous comment about the S14 missing something.... I also cant put my finger on it, but a S13 does give more thrill, and it definately looks the part! My S14 is by no means boring, it just lacks.....something....

actually the first time anyone's actually said it i think. everyone takes it as a "given", for want of a better word as "fact" actually, but maybe not everyone knows it???

perhaps the statement is NOT, a logical conclusion for some people to make. so here, at 200sx dot zed-A dot net, we will say it for you!!!

"THE S14 IS THE EVOLUTION OF THE S13!"

it came after. they didnt wait around in the shadows, ready to throw the s14 at us, at the perfect moment. they spent their valuable time developing (read: improving upon, bettering, progressing, elaborating, advancing, EVOLVO-ING, etc) the design principles applied to the s13, so that a better, and more refined, s14 could take its place... thus ensuring the continuation, and hopefully subsequent sales success of nissan's most popular sports model - the 200sx!!!

ok enough smoke up their japanese arses - and enough sarcasm dripping off this post -

GOOD NIGHT!!!

another thing i've thought of - not to slam the s14 again...
sure - i concur it is a 'better' car. in the same sense that a 2000 porsche is better than a 1990 porsche. it has to be, because evolution doesn't stand still. but
the 1990 porsche is closer to cult status for the same reason as the 19voertsek willys jeep will cost you the same as buying a second hand 4x4 from, say 1996 (well, maybe close, but just to illustrate) - the new 4x4 has all the bells'n'wistles but it does not have the character + plus you can't find them! ask any real 4x4 enthusiast
if you buy a beetle, would you buy one of the first specimens or a 1998 "beetle"?

the older the car it becomes a question of value in the eye of the beholder.
it doesn't mean that i dont want to drop an SR in my s13, but for the shape of the car - the s13 gets more rubbernecking in the traffic. maybe its not your thang, but girls wont flash an s14 imo

hell, i'd pay the same for a 280ZX as what i'd pay for an s13 if only my wife wont hit me so hard for bringing more junk to the yard!

all i can say is

"ja, whatever"

S14 > S13 :P

luckily we all entitled to our opinions. And obviously S13 drivers will be biased, same as I am biased.

No one wants to say "i should rather have bought the better S14"

hey,

when i posted the topic S13 vs S14, i didnt mean S13 owners vs S14 owners. :P :P :P

but its nice to see that you guys are willing ot defend your cars to the death.

as for the camry thing, an S14 showing off a big ass FMIC will not be mistaken for a camry.

so excluding engine, what are the weak points on these cars?

And Diesel, you drive way too fast in the basement, so fast that u didnt notice the white murchielago and the silver GT3

hey VeeCee, dude, how do you know me ????

i see i have loads of research to do.

Dont worry, it always just turns out that way :P

Regarding both cars, they are both pretty strong, If the engine checks out then you are pretty safe, there are just alot of ignorant people put there that drove the cars and changed oil every 15 - 20 000 kms.

The gearboxes and Diffs are bulletproof and hold up nicely to "spirited" driving, but again, you do get examples that have been abused badly... A note on S13's, they are showing a bit of age, alot of people here will admit to electrical problems/glitches basically down to the age of the cars and the fact that the engine bays do run hotter than normal, cooked wires, dodgy electrical fixes or alarm installations. Suspensions can get soggy depending how they've been driven and other mist stuff to check, electriv windows, aircon, blah blah blah.

So basically if you get a car that was owned by an old lady, who serviced it every 5000 kms, kept the standard alarm and sound system you should be fine.... otherwise you ARE going to spend some money somewhere, its almost a given, not being nasty, just being realistic...

As the other guys have already stated the 200sx is a money pit no matter which model you buy, having said that, every time I look at my s13 it brings a smile to my face and it's not even up and running at the moment

It really comes down to personal preference, which one would you rather have sitting in your garage? Try to get a test drive in both and go from there.

thats awefully pruposeful, the customisations i mean. the standard one looks cool too...

but i think the 280sx was a bit of a loss of focus for nissan!!!

anyway load a picture of the 240z's dashboard - i think it was way ahead of time. actually has many design cues from the s15, like the 3 circular airvents!!!

Let me add my 2c, the s14 is a cool car, standard better than the s13 standard because everything is newer..... I love the s13, with minimum money spent my car looks very nice, I prefur the s13....but think of what you want to do, look at money and what you want at the end of the day.

S14....+-80000, fix and upgrades....R20000-R35000= +-R100000-R115000?

S13...+-50000,fix and upgrades....R20000-R35000= R90 000 at the most.
If you spend say 20k on the engine alone you will have a monster on the road....spend another 10k on cosmetics...you will will feel like you driving a Firrari.

Think about your budget and what will make the butterflies in your stomace FLY...my sx does that for me.
