ok so i challenge these two clowns and become number 3

then i don't race ever again and i will be number 3 forever!!!

who does number three work for

It should be if you beat the number 3 guy you get his spot and he falls to number 4, inturn number 4 falls to 5 and so forth. That way the guys that race often have a better chance of being at the top.

What if a guy messes up the race by missing a gear or something (I do that V often) surely he should be alowed a re-race??

Well maybe we can look at some form of handicap system, either power/mass ratio based or dial-in time like supersport/sns series. I think those issues we'll get to. For now I think getting a ladder and some guys on it is more important until we have ideas on handicaps etc.

I also can't imagine someone [like u Gary] driving up to Jhb every week to only gain 1 position on the ladder, which is why I suggest 3-places at least.

I know nobody wanted this to be very complicated but we are going to have to find the balance between complicated/fairness/excitment. So basically we are aiming to be better than F1

Well another twist could be king of the hill, where if you are no1, and you are challanged by no2, then you stay no1 if you win, but the looser goes down to the bottom of the ladder! That really encourages people to race against the noobs like me on the ass-end of the ladder.

but it cant be too simple, if it is it wont work, because of the variables mentioned by qewrty.

i kinda like the challenge and loose = drop 5 places rule. stirs it up a bit.
and the assumption is that there will be somebody 5 places below you.

LOL - what if i am ciurrently in 4th place. i challenge chemcool (i've heard he is an easy target, hey gary?

) and i loose (because i suck at changing gears

). does that mean that i go to 9th place. even when there is nobody at 5th, 6th, 7th or 8th places!!!

I think firstly you need to make a list of all the guys that will actually race and arrange them alphabetically then at least you have a basic ladder. Sorry widow but will be at the bottom

sorry i'm too busy!

a good way to get it to work is to just do it, and then thrash out the problems later. that way you will make some progress at least, instead of theorising (yes - a new word) it to death!
