How dare you! This was my idea! I know I didn't communicate it but I would've, eventually, I think!
We should draw up some rules/guidelines in anticipation of things to come, I used to run a sports club, ok well not everyone thinks chess is a sport but it is competitive 1-on-1 so the same kind of things would matter. I'll share some forts (as in i fort i saw a gti):
For the most part I know you guys are actually well behaved (excluding chemcool, he is from pta & it is ROUGH there, check their ruggas team). So we can just go on taking things as it comes but here is what I think:
For various reasons, just being able to challenge within 1 step of your current location on the ladder is going to be problematic. For one, availiblity. Once someone has reached a certain spot, they might not be available to challenge. This would prevent anyone from moving higher. Availability of the 200sx/driver, couch potato syndrome, queues, rain, it all means it is difficult to ensure challenges are arranged and kept if the only person you can 'officially' race is 1 up or 1 down. The more people that are on the ladder, the more difficult it could be to progress if you are only allowed 1-up challenges. When a new boxer comes into the ring they most certainly do not expect him to beat up each and every boxer to eventually get a title.
In some games, they have a slightly more complicated system of, 1-up challenges in the top 10 [or 5 or 3], but all the others can be within 3 steps of your rank.
Maybe we should have a few weeks worth of racing to make up a tournament to work out the initial ladder. For this kind of thing, about 8 people would require 3 rounds
Thanks for creating this sub-forum, now lets get some dates on races!!!
And where is the ladder, btw?!
