Guys...lets not be daft here...we all know every system, engine and so on is different, still you start with the basics.
You answered your own question... and its not THAT simple. Plenty things need to be concidered...
Thanks for your input.....rather not post thanks.
How bout you don't have a shit attitude with the people that can actually help you. And just ask what you really need to know.

Charl I actually did, seems again a simple help thread for all get all sorts of witty aswers....and then you say I have an attitude

In general Charl, if someone gives you attitude you respond the same.

I believe the thread is simple, it was simple basic questions with a simple basic answer to help.

I am starting to get why guys like Freddy and Toby took in the point of view to not post in most topics and not be so active....

It's like being back in school

I have tried to make my point but clearly you dont it, so here is my last try WRT cold starting.

I have had 3 cars that require me to retard the timing in order to get it to start, my car and 2 others how ever I advance the timing.

So you can take your pick at to which way you want the general rule of thumb basic rule to be...

In theory you should advance but most of the time this isnt the case.

That was a good answer to begin with, there was no need for anything else, just what you said there was perfect....was it that hard?

Thanks Gary, that helped!!!!

Ok Can I go..

Cold start: timing advance or retard
fuel – Fuel enrich according to enrichment table , Timing advance 3 Degrees, cold crank timing 10 degrees

Cruising: timing advance or retard
AFR to look at.

N\A – 15.5 – 14.5
Turbo - 16.1 -14.7

Light load: timing advance or retard
AFR to look at

N\A – 14.2 – 13.7
Turbo - 13.5 -12.9

Under full load: timing advance or retard
AFR to look at

N\A – 13.5 – 13.2
Turbo - 12.3 – 11.7

Deceleration: timing
Fuel

I cut full and have a timing map till a certain RPM

:)

Here is a good example of a fuel map.

Timing map.

Dont use any of these on your car, it is only an example of some maps to show how timing and fueling changes with load and rpm.

Why dont you just aske "Should i retard or advance the timing during cold start?" And the when you get a answer like the last post from Gary ,you reply"Thanx buddy ill try that and see what works for me."
Personally ill concentrate more on fueling during cold start then timing.

Sheesh Guys... Do you need me to lighten up this thread a bit, coz you know I can.

Anyways, I think I understand where Gary is coming from, its not a simple as a list of if's and then's and or's. Each engine is different and responds differently, we all know that.

However, what I also see is Derek asking for help, all he's looking for is someone with the knowledge to poke him in the right direction, he's not asking you to tune his car for free, or offload your years of experience in a few bullet points.

Here are some 5 min googling results:
http://www.plmsdevelopments.com/files/n ... basics.pdf
http://www.carcraft.com/techarticles/ef ... index.html
http://www.phearable.net/tech/efibeginnerguide.html

They are product specific, but the basics should be there.

Found this timing map. SR20DET with Microtech.
Left vertical shows rpm, top horizontal shows psi (14 = 1 bar)

You know what, an engine is an engine, they may have their own peculuarities but the basics are the same for all.

Perhaps put aside trying to learn to tune electronically for now and get the basic ideas of how to tune a carb fed, distributor ignition engine down first. This will give you a good grounding on the basics of timing and fueling, without the confusion of electronics and being able to do just about anything wrong with fuel injection.

Example, a simple centrifugal advance distributor will be fully retarded at cranking, so its a no brainer, thats all you get with that setup, whereas with an ecu you can get full advance at crank if you want, not that that is what you want.

So rather start learning by reading up on tuning older style setups, it will help guide you/ narrow your choice of tuning options compared to just jumping in with an ecu where it can give you whatever you want, no matter how wrong it is.

U are right if this was a N/A nissan sentra forum, but SX's are all about turbo's and FI.
You WILL break your turbo engine if u only use the basic ideas of carb and distributor
Turbo engines use the basics for half of the map, the important part is when u get + boost, and that is were they break, running lean, detonation ....
