Electric fans

I spoke to a auto elec/mechanic about the fan story, he gave me a good idea, he said he would run 1 fan all the time and the 2nd from a temp. switch.
He also said that a car running too cold is just as dangerous as a car running too hot.
My car was running in 2 stripes and a little bit when it was hot with the viscues fan and the same now, only diffs is my car gets to that temp faster and as for the oil, I recon I'll put in GTX RS witch is W5-W60 that can handel the heat and cold...then I'm covered.

those cases sounds painfully familiar... anyway about the water pump - I have said this in the mailinglist. Nissan asked me sumn like R1400 or 2400 or someting jags, then I risked my ass to go to a parts shop in town that mainly caters to taxis and got a flippin box shape sentra CA18DE water pump for R100 plus VAT - brand spankme new. I had to jippo it a leeeetle bit to get on (buy one of them long thin stick-file thingies and take it easy to adjust holes and so), but it even looked better than the one i had on. BIG price diff.

My waterpump came from autozone, it was for a skyline and was identical to the original item. Been on now for 9 months +- 17 000km and no problems (with the waterpump anyway)

I feel for you guys, but you know, I don't think getting a lift from someone to get a part could be so difficalt, use public transport!!!!!
Just fooling around with you guys, luckily I stay not even a block away from Midas, the problem is if I don't know how to take a part out, I end up driving to someone I know can help me.

viscous fan is filled with a liquid that behaves in a way thats different to most people's experience - it gets more viscous the hotter it gets.
when an engine is cool for instance, the liquid is not very viscous, more like water. it therefore offers little resistance to the two plates that are on each side. so the fan blades dont move much at all while hte engine is cold.
as it warms up if offers more and more resistance between the two plates, and therefore transfers more torsional energy to the fan blades the hotter it gets.
so it works like a ratio then - the hotter the engine, the more the blades spin!!!!
similar theory to a viscous limited slip differential which can also be found on our s13's.

Slowly now Veecee. Come again. How does the viscous material get hot? Is that via the axel running from the engine to the fan then? I mean how does the liquid get its heat from?as it warms up if offers more and more resistance between the two plates, and therefore transfers more torsional energy to the fan blades the hotter it gets.
chemcool - i guess there is a lot of heat transfer from the shaft on the water pump, but there will also be a lot of heat transfer from just being in the "virginity" of the engine!!!ChemCool wrote:Slowly now Veecee. i dont think its extremely technical, like a specific heat source - but i reckon its gets "hot" enough to provide less slip just from being near the engine!!!
i dunno for sure - its a deduction watson!!!
